the elkheart is more like a shrew classic hunter than a super shrew: shorter riser, thinner handle, longer working limbs.
I will take pictures of the elkheart and CH next to each other when I get it so that you can see similarities and/or differences. I ordered my elkheart with almost exact same specs as my CH. Same length, but 57# instead of 55#

David, that is so nice and compassionate of you! I might take you up on the offer of storage room! I have to store an unused air conditioner to make room for my bow! Deal? 😛
in reply to: My Elkheart has arrived!! #48894Just got this pic of my bow from javaman. He shipped it Yesterday. I’m on the road in Kansas City today, but since i have my new photobucket app on my phone, i couldn’t resist showing a sneak preview!! I will post many once I get it in my hands!

PS
Long after the beautiful bitzenburger and the magnets and spring on the bohning have deteriorated into dust, archeologists of the distant future will be digging up someone’s bohning jig and saying “What the f@$% is this?”. All us cheapskates will be part of humanities legacy 😉
😀
in reply to: best fletching jig? #46316I’ve seen many gadgety jigs coming onto the market the last 10 years. None of them, in my opinion, come close to the very sturdy, precise and reliable Bitzenburger. Bohning is good. The 6arrows jo-jan is ok on jig 1 thru 3. But on 4,5,6, the feathers are progressively off-center.
Bitz forever for me!
in reply to: All these new bows,, guess I better show mine #41555The stippling is unbelievable! show-off you are, indeed!!:D
in reply to: Naming your bow #38181Naming bows is fun!!
My main bow, the Shrew Classic Hunter is named SST, after Sweet Sticky Thing, an Ohio Players’ song I’ve re- recorded.
My Schafer Longbow (one piece) is The Collector, because I will never sell it
My Osage selfb is Buffalo Runner
my 68″ Classic yew lams longbow is SWISS because the yew is from Switzerland, best yew in the world!:D
My Super Kodiak is AWB All weather bow, but I’m thinking of renaming it Hummer.
in reply to: On The Wild Edge #38070Like Mike said: Just buy all of Dave’s books! they are all great! Heartsblood is my favorite book about hunting. On The Wild Edge is one of my favorite books, period. I never get tired to pick up any of Dave’s books and read them over and over!
I love stalking. I do it roughly 40% of the time.
I got in the 25-30 yards range on whitetails quite a few times in the past, and killed two deer and my only turkey that way. Last year I stalked a napping coyote for one hour all the way to about 20, but I made one mistake, and the game was over!
I love it!!
in reply to: Helms Deep arrived today… #36704Aaaaaw man!! Such a nice bow! congratulations!!
in reply to: annual mountain turkey hunt #35573Nice!!
in reply to: Ghillie Suits #33263I have a couple of them. One by Natural gear, one by rancho safari. I like and use them sometime. It’s cool, especially since I hunt where there are a lot of hikers. I can dress in hiking clothes and have the ghillie balled up in a waistpack or small backpack, and put it on when I get off trails. Sometimes, wearing one boosts my confidence. I’m taking off Wednesday for a few days, to chase turkeys. I’ll try to take pics with them on.
in reply to: Robertson 'Quik Styk' Hybrid #33097Beautiful bow!! beautiful background scenery!!!
in reply to: Eastern Trad Archery Rendezvous #32017Mike
ETAR is the best!! situated at the bottom of a ski area, thousands of archers, dozens of vendors, all the major bowyers and archery organizations are present. I think it has 5 3D courses, most of them on the ski slopes and adjacent woods. Lots of serious camps out there!! I remember driving to it one early morning, and seeing a huge cloud of campfire smoke over the valley, it was really something. Glad you can make it. I went last year (first time since ’08 ) but turned around the same day, 5 hours drive each way, because I had to travel and play on that sunday.
I am booked in Norfolk,VA the 28th, but I probably will drive there on Friday and drive back saturday. Maybe we can shoot a course together!
