Michael – You are right, Spring is definetly relative!

I hope you have a great Traditional Bow Hunting Year!

Nice shooting George. I like to practice shooting in a similar manor – shooting from different angles and distances each shot……However my groups are never that nice!

David Petersen wrote: Welcom back, Michael. I hope you weren’t out of the archery and bowhunting game all that time. Long ago, before the advent of this website, when I visited others on occasion (haven’t done that for years now and never will), I went through a variety of names and like you, I can’t even remember them all. That’s one reason so many of us here just use our real names–as we age we’re less likely to forget who we are. 😛 And too, it keeps us honest. So hang around this time and help spark up the conversations.

Now, for me, it’s back under the cabin where I’ve been most of the day, trying to thaw the water pipes after last night’s -11. After more than 30 years of winters here you’d think I’d have it figured out by now … 😯 Dave

Dave – My pipes used to freeze everytime we got below zero. I had one year where it took me almost 3 days to thaw out! That was enough for me. The next summer I wraped every pipe that I could with electrical heating tape and 2″ foam insulation. I did that about 5 years ago and haven’t had a problem since. I imagine one day the heating tape will give up the ghost and I’ll be crawling under the house again in -10

          I Definetly FEEL YOUR PAIN.

Good News – Spring is 2 months away! 😆

I recently watched the DVD – Full Circle. I think that you would enjoy it. They cover the complete process to follow for making all your own primitive gear. Very interesting and gets you motivated to try it. I just can’t seem to find the time to get started::(

The bigger treachery remains ATV’s and any other conveyance that strips the “fair” from “chase.” My money is on BHA and organizations like them that take the fight to the hearings, meetings, and legislative process. Of course, a well placed projectile would down one of these “birds” as easily as the feathered type…

X2 – I agree with the ATV statement!

Dave – Thanks for the Info. I plan to do alot of homework before I commit.I didn’t see a reference list on the site either and that is what prompt me to make this Post. Good point about the 5 day hunt, I don’t know how I missed that. I’m looking for a full 5 days of hunting so unless I could work that out with him it would probably be a deal breaker. Sounds like it is a good area.

Thanks again, appreciate such an informative reply

I wish that I still had all of the things that I used when I started hunting in the 70’s. Unfortunately I eventually seem to lose everything. I can’t even seem to find where I put all my stuff from the last time that I went hunting and that was a week ago:lol:

This thread brought back many good memories of my childhood.

My first bow was an unmarked green fiberglass bow that my Grandfather found at the dump. I had to use fishing line for a bow string and and a multitude of different items as arrows. Because I could never shoot it well with much consistency I became very skilled at stalking and getting close. I cherished it more than any store bought toy that I owned and was inseparable from it on weekends. All my friends had BB guns and I was the oddball with the bow. I took alot of ribbing but would never trade that bow for a BB gun. My Grandfather also brought home a pair of cross country skies from the dump but that is another story!

I prefer to hunt alone but I do like to share camp with like minded individuals on longer week long hunts. It’s nice to be able to share info when you get back to camp in the evening and of course another good strong back comes in handy when packing out meat!

Good Luck to all you LUCKY fellows that can talk Turkey now. I have to wait until May 1 here in the Adirondacks. I have retired the shotgun also in favor of the longbow. Spring Turkey sure does cure cabin fever!

Don’t Miss! German Shorthair – nothing gets past his nose. Finds all my arrows even when out in the woods stumpshooting unless he gets wind of a Grouse.

BearPaw – Thanks for the info. What would you attribute the lack of success there? Do you think that the Sheep population is very sparse throughout the area or is the country so rough and remote that it is hard to hunt. Maybe a combination of both?
