Troy,
I suspect the Bubinga is the wood you’re having difficulty filling. I had a recurve built out of Bubinga and Shedua with Maple, Bloodwood and Purpleheart accents. It was a gorgeous bow, but, it had lots of pores that weren’t sealed in both the Bubinga and the Shedua.
Don’t ship the bow until you’re happy with it. If you’re happy with it, I know I will be. I still have a couple dozen arrows that you built for me way back when you was building wood arrows. They still show the quality craftsmanship you put into your work to this day! :):):)

in reply to: Looking for a Take-Down Longbow/Hybrid… #12349One of the best shooting T/D longbows I’ve ever shot and/or owned was a Crow Creek Black Feather by Elmer Patton in AR. He builds a great looking and a great shooting hybrid T/D longbow.

in reply to: When you can not find it you make it… #10614Troy is in the process of building a Rocky Mountain Recurve copy for me. Below are some pics of the riser he emailed to me. The riser has had one coat of epoxy sealer applied to it.
It’s going to be a gorgeous bow. It’ll be 62″ and around 50#@28″.

in reply to: How many bows do you have? #59086I have an Eagle Wing Talon II T/D recurve, 62″, 52#@28″, a Bill Stewart MultiCam Takedown with 62″, 45#@28″ recurve limbs and 66″, 47#@28″ longbow limbs, a Bob Jones T/D recurve with split limbs, 60″, 48#@28″ and a Bob Jones Hill Style longbow, 68″, 50#@28″. The only one I shoot/hunt with is the Eagle Wing Talon II. The other bows are keepsakes that I bought to remember the bowyers by their presence.
I do have a Rocky Mountain Recurve style bow being built for me by Troy Breeding. I have several sets of wood arrows Troy built and sold to me 10 years ago, or so. When I saw his thread on this forum and the pictures of the first RMR T/D recurve he built, I had to have one! 🙂

You may see some cosmetic booboos when you look at the bow in your hands. I just see a great looking bow!

in reply to: where are the heavier bows at??? #52451Troy Breeding wrote:
When I was building bows for the public back in the earlie 2000’s I was seeing that trend coming and coming fast. If I built a bow over 55# it took sometimes several months to move it. It hadn’t reached the low weight range it is now because 40 to 45#er were just as hard to sell. Anything I had in the 47#-55# range very rairly came home with me after the shoots.
This is the reason I still build my own bows. If I want more weight I just build it.

Troy,
It also probably has to do with much of the trad hunters getting older and if in doing so they accumulate injuries or develop arthritis, they do it for the lack of pain. At least that is why I have gone to lesser draw weights.

That’s a mighty good looking bow you built. It’s as good looking as some of the arrows I bought from you when you lived in AL!

in reply to: SBD bowstrings? #52308I’ve found skinny strings to be a pain. The arthritis in my string fingers start screaming at me when I have a skinny string on a bow. I’ve ready many comments saying that if the center serving on a skinny string is built up to equal that of a standard string you can’t tell the difference. All I can say about that is my fingers can tell the difference and they are what I have to keep satisfied! 🙂

in reply to: Opinions on T/D Longbows #60493My favorite T/D longbow is the Crow Creek Black Feather built by Elmer Patton in AR. He builds a bow that is both beautiful and a very accurate, shoots where you look, bow.
