in reply to: New T/D Recurve #34676
Well, the bow is going to be even more beautiful soon. I shipped the riser back to Troy and he is building me a new set of limbs that will be 62-63″, 45-46#@28″, Walnut cores and Eastern Red Cedar veneers under clear glass. I can’t wait to see the new combination!!
Bill
Troy,
Can’t wait to see the finished product. The veneers are gorgeous!

I’ve built several recurves with different designs. This design is the best so far. Smooth draw, great cast, and looks.
I’ve owned and shot a number of different bows over my life time and this design still has me saying ahhhhhhh.

Troy,
Mine has me saying “Ahhhhhhhh me, Troy outdid himself on this one!” I like everything about the bow. I normally don’t like a light wood on either the riser or the limbs. But, the epoxy put a nice amber color on the Birdseye Maple and the Bubinga looks so much like Cocobolo with all of the grain! I LOVE it!!
Once again, THANKS!!!!! :D:D
Bill
Troy,
Your new RMR is shaping up to be a real gorgeous bow. I know from experience that they shoot as good as they look. And that is saying something!! :):D

Troy,
I only asked for three things on the bow you built for me. I asked that it be 62″, 48-49#@28″ and that you build it with a full width riser and cut the window to 3/16″ past center. Everything else, woods in riser, limb laminations, etc., you decided on. It’s not my fault you built a great bow! :):)

in reply to: New T/D Recurve #24857I picked the bow up at the PO this morning. I took the bow to The Archery Shop, unpacked and assembled and then shot it. The bow is very smooth, very quiet, very fast and shoots where I look.
It is a GREAT shooting bow! 🙂 And the pics don’t do the bow justice. The craftsmanship is top shelf!

What Troy is really saying is you have to be an old friend. I’m old, so I guess I qualified. Send him a copy of your birth certificate and maybe you can qualify as an old friend! 🙂 😆
I’ll be shooting my new Breeding RMR style recurve tomorrow, Lord willing! 😀

in reply to: Going bananas… #22766Troy,
I suspected that was the case, but the only banana fletch I’ve had personal experience with is the high profile variety. That would make the banana more a peeling! 😀 (Pun intended)
Bill
in reply to: Going bananas… #22382The biggest issue with banana fletching is it is very noisy. At least that is true of the high profile banana fletching. I’ve never shot low profile banana fletching, so I can’t address it.
I once fletched a set of arrows with banana fletching and when I shot the arrows on the indoor archery range at The Archery Shop I heard a new noise when I shot. Another shooter on the range said to me “Man, those arrows are noisy!”
I later had my son-in-law shoot the arrows at the target in my backyard. I stood behind a large pine tree that was off to the side and about halfway to the target. They were LOUD even outdoors. I think you might have deer dropping at the sound of the fletched arrow heading toward them with banana fletched arrows.

in reply to: Looking for a Take-Down Longbow/Hybrid… #21301lyagooshka wrote: Well, after many emails and much thought (and permission from the Mrs.), I have a Black Feather TD on order. Mr. Patton actually had one made up that matched what I was looking for. 62”, 50# @ 28”. Now I start the waiting game. If anyone has advice on shooting a hybrid, choosing arrows (I am looking at aluminum, but I am not excluding carbon or wood) or anything else that will help. I actually draw a bit longer than 28” so the bow should be 53#-55# at mu draw weight. I can’t wait for it to come in the mail. Lastly, I have a strap-on quiver (Kwik-E???). Will this work on my new bow?
Thanks all for all of your suggestions and advice.

🙂
Alex,
You will be very pleasantly surprised when you receive your new bow. The Black Feather hybrid T/D longbows are great shooting bows!

in reply to: New T/D Recurve #21231Troy,
That’s a surprise I can handle. Actually, 49#@28″ is a good weight for me!
Thanks for slapping your hand and letting the bow loose so it could come to me!:)
Bill
in reply to: New T/D Recurve #20580The bow is 62″, 49#@28″, Bubinga and Curly Maple riser, actionboo limbs with black glass, Bubinga and Curly Maple limb bolt pads and black and white Phenolic limb tips. The first pic is the finished bow before Troy applied the steel wool to mute the shiny finish. The second and third pics show the bow strung and after he applied the steel wool. I should get it Monday or Tuesday and I’ll be going to The Archery Shop on Tuesday to set it up and shoot it. I’ll report my findings afterwards.
You can’t tell it looking at the pics, but I had Troy build my bow full width, 1-3/4″, and cut the window 3/16″ past center. I’m more interested in the bow being spine friendly for hunting than I am having it satisfy limitations by one of the shooting organizations for tournaments.
