I really enjoy these topics. I can learn so much more by reading these than if I were to muster a question of my own.
I’ve been setting up a roving range through the woods behind my house. I also struggle with consistency when shooting at times, but clearing my mind of other things before I start makes a huge difference in my shooting.
It’s always fun to hit the mark, but I also enjoy challenging myself to improve.
Thanks everyone!
in reply to: Heat gun glue for arrows? #53887I’ve been using it for about a year with no issues. There are some steps I take to make sure they stay together.
I clean the inside of my broadheads, or field points with alcohol.
Then make sure the gun has heated the glue thoroughly.
Once I’m sure it’s good and hot, I apply the glue, hold it so it sets like I want it.
Then take my heat gun to it and reheat glue, broadhead, or field point, and even a little on the shaft.
This seems to bond everything together very well. I do the same for my nocks, but with much less heat to prevent scorching the plastic nock.
in reply to: Emergency Kit? #47390I carry one. It has basically the same contents.
I keep it in a grenade pouch on my hip. that way its easy to get to.
in reply to: Look at what I found… #47384Awesome! Now I can add yet another location that I cannot afford to a bucket list that I’ll never live long enough to finish. Haha.
Actually, I’d like to see that country and there is no better way than with a longbow in my hand.
Good hunting!
in reply to: String Leeches Vs. Beaver Balls #47381I’ve had good results with Beaver fur strips for a long time. And I also agree with Mr. Peterson’s statement about good string release along with good bow tuning and arrow set up goes a long way towards silencing my shooting. I use the beaver strips on both my longbow and my recurve.
Are they necessary? Perhaps not, but then it is a personal preference.
Hope all have had a pleasant Independence Day!

in reply to: Going Trad #30632I would like to be in the drawing. I really really wanna win!
in reply to: Boom stick frustrations! #29382Haha, yes, no misfires with the longbow. That’s not to say that I did not miss when I fired a few times. I will not tell a lie.
My “boom stick” as I’ve called it is a CVA reproduction left handed percussion Hawken. The model is Frontier. I bought it at a gun show a couple years back just because I always loved the old “mountain man” stories I’ve read for years.
I have a few others, but have not been very interested in several years. I do hunt the black powder season, and occasionally hunt the rifle season, but mainly hunt private lands with my bow these days. I belong to the NRA to support our freedoms and exercise my rights. Not than gun hunting is bad, just not among my interests as much as it once was.
Hope you all enjoy a cool breeze and a warm cup.
in reply to: Boom stick frustrations! #29254Amazing coincidence!
My longbow seems to have the exact same issues, LOL!!!!!!!!
in reply to: Boom stick frustrations! #29053Yes, I’ve been told that by someone else. I called a friend when I got home and he basically said the same as you.
I’ve not had this trouble until now, but it certainly helps to have folks willing to share their experience with me.
I appreciate the info.
I truly prefer my longbow to any firearms for the simple reason of no misfires, or hangfires.
Thanks
I stump shoot along with target shooting on my range at home. I’ve cut about a mile’s worth of trails in the woods on my property where I’ve placed a dozen or so targets and keep some blunts with me for stumps between targets. Blunts and judos work great cause they won’t burrow under, and hide from you. Otherwise I’d have to spend everything I have on arrows.:?
