in reply to: got hunting land today!!! #61772:Dok well heres the deal, last week i put out some corn and a salt lick, yesterday i went back out to check it all and not much had happend but thats ok i know they are there, so i sat in my blind for a minute and started to think about it and ya’ll are right, i have never needed to bait before so why start now. so i picked up as much of the corn as i could (i had a back pack with me) and picked up the salt lick, i’m 5 yards off the trail in a popular area, what do i need bait for??? thanks for talking some sence into me…. oh on another note my dad came over to the house 2 days ago to shoot with me (compounder) and he always talks smack about my “stick” and to his defense the last time he seen me shoot was over a year ago (when i first started and i was doing “good” to hit a paper plate at 10 yards) man i felt good to smoke him all day long, to be honest i was on fire, stacking arrows left and right and i’m sure he wasnt shooting his best but i will take it lol and yes i played it off like was shooting my “norm”
in reply to: How’s the outlook for deer in your area? #61748mine looks great 😀 however Kansas has had over 40 days of continous 100 plus degrees weather and you can tell with the lack of food for them… but i think we will be alright…
in reply to: got hunting land today!!! #58287Dave, i understand what you are saying and i actually have never hunted with bait before, i have never shot a deer with a bow of any kind before either but i have a few dozen deer in my life and a few with a flintlock so i know what you mean about self accomplishment… i don’t know i think that I’m just getting itchy since i have not got a deer since 2006 but i totally understand what you mean…
in reply to: So dang funny!!! #58273got to love it… great shooting….
in reply to: I guess you can #57185thats great… i would love to make my own strings as well…
in reply to: got hunting land today!!! #57183ok well i will give it some thought maybe i wont bait.. yes in Kansas it is legal to bait… i can not wait for the season to start i am pumped, cant get it off my mind lol
in reply to: Keep string from brace height change #55039here is what i have been doing… first the twisty tie deal sounds good, just take the string off carefully and tie it to gether (twisty tie) and stow it… ok so set your brace high, then pick a spot on yor riser i use the “B” on my Bear elivated arrow rest and with your brace hight set put a little black dot on your arrows at that mark and then put dots a 1/16th of a inch on both sides of that dot so when your out all you have to do is line up the dot… simple to me…
in reply to: got hunting land today!!! #55028so i went to check out the land today.. found a mini deer highway (trail) and started to follow it and found a good spot to set up a blind. i lood up and noticed that 70 yards infront of my there is a yearling doe looking straight at me, so i stopped and she took off but i stay were i was and found a good spot to put out some food (sets me up for a 15 yard shot) and notice about 150 yards to my left a big doe is looking at me lol i got high hope so far, 45 minute of the property and i seen 2 deer pretty close to where i thought would be a good spot for a stand… what do you guys suggest for food, corn? any one try peanut butter?
