Tabasco….an essential part of the MRE experience. I remember Tabasco came out with camo holders for the small bottles you could wear on your belts even, lol. I didnt mind them too much and always ate plenty as others gave me theirs…I was never a picky eater though and had plenty of Tabasco..lol. ColMike…you had years more “exposure” to them than I did…no doubt your done with ’em!! We would take a helmet, steel pot, before the Kevlar came around, mix a bunch of different meals together, add a generous dose of Tabasco, heat it up and feast. We called it “Tankers Stew”… 😉

My advice—don’t go there:evil: In stress conditions (combat) you need calories and you will eat anything. Don’t think I ever heard anyone say they are good–different from the old C-rations–which were canned. Oh well we gave up minimal taste for:x, but we did save weight. Make a nice emergency food? –but not a daily diet. On a multiple day hunt in moderate conditions and terrain you are going to burn some calories–best to refuel with something that is tasty and not infused with more chemicals then you can imagine. Oh yeah if you don’t eat all of it–part of it blocks you up the other part is the laxative. But hey that’s only my 32 years of experience talking:shock:. Hope this helps.

in reply to: Looking to relocate: AR or MO–Any help? #14039Doc,
Not any of the states you mentioned and I dont have a lot of details for you, but considering what your after, milder winters, lower COL, ya might want to look into North Carolina. Just a thought. Good luck!

I have GOT to find cheaper living and better hunting. I’m too damn old to move back to MT and hump those steep hills and high passes…or deal with those long cold winters! But this Eastern country has me frazzled… my native farm land now only grows housing developments, shopping centers and industrial parks. Pretty to look at but you can’t do anything, especially HUNT!
I have done research on parts of Missouri and North Central Arkansas as being more affordable, decent weather and better hunting access. I’d like help narrowing that if anyone has current information?
Goals are to find cheaper living and local access to hunting w/out long hikes. Public land is great, but here you have to hike till you drop to get away from the madding crowds. Figure I best do it now while I can still get around some before Uncle Arty Ritis takes me outa the game completely!
Flying into St. Louis 11/1 and out 11/8. Base camp will be a time share a friend can muster in Branson, MO.
Looking for suggestions for areas to explore! Affordable rental would mean clean digs under $500/mo and not an area experiencing rampant growth like NW AR is these days with close access to go deer hunting, etc.
Fly fishing or general fishing (stream versus lakes) would be a plus
Not looking for invites as I got lodging covered. Just looking for suggestions with some data points.
PM or emails might be best to not clog up the band width here.
Thanks to Robin for letting me turn to you good folks to find new home with way better hunting and less expensive living! Thanks to all!
Doc Nock,
Yeah, MIke did tell me that but thanks for the warning!! Appreciate it.

I believe the shop is open “by appt” so don’t just decide to drive all that way w/out getting a firm time set w/ them.
Yep, they seem like great folks and Mike helped me a lot just talking on the phone and a few emails. They’re about 3.5 hours from me so I might ride up there sometime.
Thanks for the warm welcome all!

Just watch out for Sue…she can shoot your lights out and if there is money on the line, she usually whups the guys!:D
I’ll be hunting with it when I can shoot it consistantly, definitely not this year. I’ll be hunting with my compound, a Hoyt Ultramag this year. People seem to really like the Sage and It works fine for me so far. Finish isnt great on it, as in cross-grain scratches, thin coat of poly, etc., but no big deal and I may sand and refinish at some point if I feel the need. At 139.00 bucks…what the heck. I got mine from Shaw’s Archery in Boyertown, PA..great folks to deal with and they ship stuff out fast.
