in reply to: Noteable Quotes! #10911
Jim I can’t even imagine what Abbey would say about the Segway. heck I’m not even sure they look human riding those things anymore.
in reply to: Where is your anchor? #10907I shoot split finger and anchor my middle finger in the corner of my mouth. On occasion I will play with changing my anchor but only if I need to purchase more arrows.
It never ceases to amaze me on how a little change in anchor point can affect where an arrow ends up 20 yards later.
in reply to: Noteable Quotes! #10728“There is this to be said for walking: It’s the one mode of human locomotion by which a man proceeds on his own two feet, upright, erect, as a man should be, not squatting on his rear haunches like a frog.” Edward Abbey
“Though men now possess the power to dominate and exploit every corner of the natural world, nothing in that fact implies that they have the right, or the need to do so.”
Edward Abbey
Going through another Abbey stage.
in reply to: HAPPY HOLIDAY #61939More often than not I probably am doing something wrong. I spend many a day afield contemplating how much better a hunter I would be if my family truly depended on the game I brought home.
For as much time that I spend in the woods I have to constantly remind myself that the deer and elk I chase are there 24/7. Full time professionals at avoiding predators.
At best I am a part time amateur in the predator department.
Lucky for me I occasionally stumble onto one that is probably lacking in the mental capacity department.
in reply to: Something to get your blood pumping.. #58383You sir have a great talent. The last thing I want to do now is go to work, just grab my bow and head for the woods. Beautiful and inspirational. Thank you
in reply to: Are these broadheads legal??? #42085Those would be considered barbed by Oregons definition and wouldn’t be legal here.

How do you get the genie back in the bottle? Technology is here to stay.(at least for now) Heck I was thinking that 3 pages of trad in one of those catalogs is progress 😆
I actually believe that more and more people are starting to gravitate twards trad because they find that they are missing somthing that cant be filled with another gadget.
Lets face it shooting a bow is FUN. Even while hunting I have seen guys that wont (waste) an arrow on grouse because their gizmo wheel will destroy every 300gr shaft it launches. Where as I can shoot an old stump, pick up the arrow sharpen a little and continue hunting.

in reply to: Nothing is wasted … #37770WOW Dave, I have had a few close encounters with cats, but with three fairly good size cats together is a little spooky. Great reminder that for the most part I am just soft pink meat.LOL

in reply to: Hardwood shafts? #37069This post got me to thinking,(wife says thats a scary thing). I haven’t shot wood since I was a little kid, and I am sure those cedar shafts were just cut offs of dads broken arrows. Anyway I got to looking on 3 Rivers site and found a jig for internal footing wood arrows. Has anyone tried this? How did it work?
From what I can tell the center of the shaft is drilled with a 1/8″ drill bit and then you can add either steel or brass rod to the shaft for weight and strength.
Just curious.

in reply to: Hardwood shafts? #32379Has anyone had experience with footed wood shafts? I know there are a few places that foot cedar with other hard woods. They seem to be a little on the expensive side but I am sure there is a lot of work involved in making them.
A hardwood up front seems like it would also increase FOC. Just not sure how much.

in reply to: The anser to all our problems! #30653From what I can tell right now for the 2013 elk season in Oregon, there will be no more taking of cow elk durring the general bow or blackpowder seasons on the west side of the Cascades. (on National Forest lands)
I cant help but think these new regs are a product of how effective the technology has become in archery and blackpowder rifles.
Next step will be either shortening of season length or making the whole state a draw for tags.
Is the advent of technology worth losing time in the woods chasing elk? Not in my opinion.

in reply to: Black Widow PSA recurve #26285I just traded a PSA for a PLV, its not that there was anything wrong with the bow and it was wicked fast but at 58″ the finger pinch was a bother to me.
Black Widow has a test drive program if you are really interested in one.

in reply to: Private land (more ethics) #26275I have several clients that feel the same way as the people you describe, Not being big meat eaters they seem to think that the deer are competition. I have even helped build fences around gardens to keep the deer out.
I don’t think that I can say it any better than the above posts, that actions speak louder than words.
Good luck

in reply to: Favorite meal while out hunting #10917I can see right off that I dont hunt with the right folks.
Everything tastes better in the outdoor but after a month of chasing elk, I am happy for anything that isnt peanut butter.
