in reply to: Bamabows Hunter Expedition (Pic's Update) #29687, the BEST glove I have ever used and i have tried a pile of them! i am using a Wet-shot by american leathers for hunting its mostly neoprene and works well with fingerless gloves!
in reply to: Bamabows Hunter Expedition (Pic's Update) #29448VERY VERY nice these are great hunting bows very easy to manuever in a brush blind or in a tree stand i love my 40lb Expi! He e-mailed me yesterday said my Royal Super Expi is in the mail I hope it arrives by the weekend! the bow is mostly Osage w a little Becote accent boo limb cores with a layer of carbon w Stag limb tips!
in reply to: Dang Squirrels!!! #14555I have had as many a 6 big black squirrels around my stand running all over, the rut for them must be on because there have been several mating rituals going on during these chases!I do believe thatI have to start bringing some judo tipped arrows with me again! We have had a lot of real heavy winds lately and the deer are real spooky anyway, this AM I was watching 3 does coming toward me and with the heavy wind in my favor there was no way they could make me out! Two of those damn squirrels came frollicking thru the leaves that was it for the deer, i think I am going to declare war on them squirrels from now on!LOL
in reply to: erratic wooden arrow flight #12845My draw is the same as yours and I shoots 2 D-styles that are 50lbs! I also shoot POC, I built prolly 100 arrows in the last year! I have shot 65/70, and 70/75 out my bows with 125 and 145 pts, and mine fly great so I think your spine is in the wheel house! If the shafts are straight maybe check the following: spin test them to see if all the points are seated right with no wobble, maybe they are not clearing the shelf and rest cleanly, as you stated check brace height and nocking point! Once in while I will find a wood arrow that will not fly right no matter what I do, then it goes in the stumper pile!
in reply to: Woolrich….the warm camo. #61052Been using Woolrich Red and black plaid for years, our family store sold their stuff for a long long time! Got mine in the late 70s have a heavy plaid coat and pant and a red/black Buffalo shirt mine are old enough to be USA made! Great stuff!
in reply to: fast flight and selfbows #60489I just finished a Hickory selfbow , the bow was sent roughed out! I added the stain, put several coats of poly on it and finished the rest! the bow came with a string so I started shooting it with string the guy provided! the string he sent is a fast-flight with padded loops,I was suspect on using a fast-flight on a selfbow,so I contacted the guy he said he uses them on all his personal selfbows and had no issues! I did try a B-50, and the bow seems to shoot better with the string he sent! I have shot well over a 100 arrows from this bow and so far have not had any issues! he says that he will replace the bow if I do!
in reply to: Bama Bows Expi 62" #58489Welcome to the forum, that personal bow of his IS a work of art! Limblover my son and Nate have become real good friends as they both are new fathers etc! he built Nick a 64in Expi Royal using the Lacewood on the limbs Nate used the leftover lacewood on his bow! Nicks bow is one of the nicest bows I have seen almost too nice to hunt with! I have a Expi Royal 62in on order that he should be in the works, I went almost all Osage with a little accent! I am like you can’t wait!
in reply to: Bamabows Hunter Expedition (Pic's Update) #57081Congrats on the Expi you are gonna love that bow, i have been hunting with my 60in Expi all week, very manueverable in the woods, i have been hunting from a ground blind much easier to use than my 66in Royal Bama! Nate sent me pics of HIS personal bow, very nice! He should be starting my 62in Royal Expi any day! I am going with Orange Osage with a little contrast on the riser, I told him to pick the wood, going with bamboo cores on the limbs about 47@28 plus I am adding the stag limbtips can”t wait to get some pics from him when he gets it started! good luck with your new bow!
in reply to: Musings from opening weekend in Michigan. #56897I got one for you, we hunt in an area close to Lake Huron, and of course there are houses not far from us as the crow flies! There are lot of logging trails that run through the area so now and then we will encounter a jogger etc! Usually not in Oct/Nov! So I am sitting in my stand at about 5:30 getting close to primetime seen several deer moving the day before at 6:00pm, I hear some movement on the ridge walking towards me at the end of the pond where my stand is! Here comes his guy with a camera in white sweater taking pics of birds! He gets 20 feet away from my stand (groundblind) and never sees me till I wave at him, the look was priceless, he then says” are you hunting”? Dah all I cansay is that camo works great at least on humans! LOL
in reply to: Deer Hunters…Morning or Evening? #56892So far no consistency where I hunt, I have seen deer in the morning and deer in the evening this week, weather has been real quiet and summerlike mid 70s in the PM! The best days it seems is when the wind is blowing coming off Lake Huron! Good breeze Wed afternoon LimbLover saw deer and so did I! Dead still yesterday only saw a bird watcher ( a story all to it self) and lots of squirrels!
in reply to: Barta on techno-BS #45814Treds entertainment thats what most outdoor TV shows are about, I watched him when I could on Versus and sometimes I really liked his shows sometimes he annoyed or pissed me off, thats his way! The only reason I started to watch his program is that it was one of the only outdoor shows that featured any Traditonal archery at all, esspecially with a longbow! I quit watching though, when they had the show, after is medical problems,( which I really feel for him by the way no one deserves that), where they treed the Black Bear and then he shot it from the wheel chair!I under stand why they did it put that kind of turned me off, havn’t watched the show much since that episode!
in reply to: 35-pound longbow proves just enough… #23991Can’t wait to get mine from Kegan and finish it, i should have posted the apple I shot but I ate it! I hope mine comes in at around the 48lb mark!
in reply to: Parabolic, Shield, Banana etc etc etc #20352I shoot woods with 3 differant types of feathers, for 3D Target etc I shoot Traditional cut which are very cool looking but are quite noisy, I also shoot high back 5in shields, for hunting I use 5in parabolics and Low cut banana! I shoot heavy woods and these stabilize real nice!
