Now if I do my part I can average 5-8 out of 10 arrows inside of the 6″ circle at 20 yards with the first being near dead center, but if I let my self look at the tip of my arrow or anything that breaks my concentration of burning a hole in the center of the target I’ll be lucky to keep the arrow in the 2’X2′ sheet.

My form I think is as good as I’m going to get “I video myself occasionally to see if I’m making mistakes there” but the stare down the center of the target till the arrow is loosed is where I’ll loose it at times & I’m working on that.

A 45# bow with some good cut on contact broadheads will cleanly take a deer sized animal as long as the shooter does their part, I’d try to make my arrows in the 450 grain range to optimize a quiet shot but still have enough oomph to reach out there, good luck to ya my friend.

I’m lingering around the 50-52# range with my hunting recurve & I figure that by the time season opens for me I’ll have the confidence in my self to take it out to the deer woods this year.

I like many of us grew up where as a child went in search of adventure in creeks, the back woods or where ever I could find that nature was all around me, my grandfather taught me many of the lessons that still stick with me today including the basics of shooting a bow, my first was one he made for me out of some Hickory, even today I follow a rule that he drilled in my head 28+ years ago, he called it the 20 yard rule.
When shooting at a target you are in control & if you can hit your target consistently at say 40 yards knock your hunting distance down by 20 yards because unlike a target where most aspects are in control by you in Nature there is nothing that you control but yourself.

I’ve always had a facination to Nature & although I have used other means of hunting I have made it my mission to go back to my humble beginnings mostly so that I can pass what I have learned to my daughters & hope that they too will appreciate the greatness & simplicity of nature & true bowhunting.

I’ve only relied on 3 different broadheads.

Magnus, which now I’m trying out the Snuffer screw in on my Aluminum Eastons, I like Magnus because they have been around for years & like Zwicky have always made a solid no nonsence product that works.

Muzzy, my first ever bowkill was with a 125gr Muzzy 3 blade & they are just tough as nails.

G5 Montec, like the Magnus they are tough, no nonsence & work wonderfully in taking game but I only use these in muy compound.

I started out shooting my Grandfathers Bear Grizzly in ’82 & got my first bowkill deer with it in ’84 but in ’87 my uncle gave me a graduation gift “a Ben Pearson model 250 Compound.”

Since then I would occasionally shoot traditional but no where near what I should have till here recently when I said ENOUGH!

Now I’m on the road to the right path & hope that by October I’ll have the confidence in my self to take a Recurve into the woods again “I’ll hang on to my last hunting Compound till I have that confidence” but till then I have been shooting regularly videoing myself to catch any flaws I should address.

But to answer the question, unfortunatly no the Traditional Recurve/Long Bow will not be as popular as the modern Compound bow because of advertising, speed, & the ability to hold at a lighter weight but in contrast with many states allowing Cross Bows I see the trend to those as well making it ever more harder for us to bring in new faces to our side of the sport & way of life.

I have 2 Bear Grizzlies & soon to have a Ragim Impala to play with “it’ll be my first T/D” but I’ve been attracted to Zona’s T/D Recurves & just had to order one so my take on this is..

I love the graceful lines of a one piece Recurve or Long but understand the usefullness of a good T/D & soon will be giving one a try.
