in reply to: Comfortable Bow #42037
I have a Horne TD recurve 47# very smooth to shoot. It is for sale if you are interested I will send you pictures.
in reply to: I love my classic Bear bows! #42833I shoot and hunt with the older Bears also. I use a set of 55# and a 60# Super Magnum 48’s. I also have a couple Kodiak Mags but would like to sell them and I have my first bow from when I was 10 a Black Bear. I would like to get a deer with that one next year.
in reply to: pop-up ground blinds #39099Dave,
I also hunt those open hard wood ridges from the ground. I use a tree seat, and I like the one Millenium tree stands sell. It is easy to pack and comfortable enough to sit in all day. I also use ASAT camo leafy suit. I have had deer under ten feet that never saw me as long as I don’t move. I also use this setup for turkey in the spring. I also carry a piece of mini bung cord that is ten feet long with a hook on each end. I purchased this from three rivers archery. It is small enough that I can hook it to the smallest branch or bush and then hang other brush on it to make a blind. With two pieces I can encircle myself and have 360 degree coverage. The wind here is never consistent and changes through the day so I like to stay mobile, and besides I just don’t enjoy sitting in a tent all day. I like the ASAT because it is light but a ghillie suit might be more effective.in reply to: First EFOC Deer Down #322822nd deer down today. Same arrow set up as before but used my 60# super magnum 48 1969 bow. Doe came out about 15 yards broadside shot through both shoulders, complete pass through. She went about 30 yards and died, a lot of blood to follow. Last year I shot two does of similar size and both times the arrows failed to go through, I know four deer is not statistically valid but I have seen enough to be convinced.
in reply to: First EFOC Deer Down #58034Dave I hunt not far from WV, I am in southern Ohio along the Ohio River about a two hour drive from WV. You can expect a doe to range from 90-120lbs, add 50-100lbs for the average buck that is 21/5 trs old or older. Even a 90lb doe can take a lick’n and keep on tick’n and the woods are thick here so good blood and putting them down quick is the key to recovery. I agree I get a much more finely tuned arrow with an efoc set up so better accuracy and better penetration so if there is no downside why not?
I am sure my arrow did not deflect of of anything, is it possible for the deer to turn while the arrow is passing through and there by effect the angle that the arrow sticks in the ground? I did post some comments on the appropriate discussion thread but don’t like where it is currently heading. If you want to hunt southern Ohio to or from WV let me know.in reply to: Appropriate discussion? #57430Why not use the most powerful bow you can shoot, even if you don’t need it for deer? Why not push yourself to train and build your strength to shoot a more powerful bow even if you don’t need it for deer? Why not use an arrow and BH that can pass through a cape buffalo even if you don’t need it for deer?
in reply to: classified ad ?? #15005I posted an ad and now I am getting strange emails from a dying man who wants to leave me all his money because he doesn’t trust his children, but he doesn’t have the bow I want.
in reply to: Why is Bowhunting Illegal in Germany? #40707This is a public apology to anyone who saw my previous post if you didn’t please disregard. I made fun of Germans because I am of German descent and 90% of the people I know are German. I meant it more in the spirit of making fun of myself than anyone else so if I offended you my sincere apologies. As we Germans say around here “you can always tell a German but you can’t tell him anything”. I will banish myself from the site untill I can behave. Shoot staight you are a great group.

in reply to: carbon vs aluminum #36318I only use aluminum for beer. Carbon is the way to go.I wonder how carbon “bottles” would work with beer?
in reply to: Most Admired Predators #36313My least favorite is the praying mantis the females mate then chew the head off the male. Reminds me of my ex-wife. BTW I am still my favorite predator. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr Patrick.
