in reply to: Truth … Or Consequences? Article #53689
I just reactivated my account and read the article and also thought it was a great piece. It wasn’t so much the fact that Dave told Keith about his hunting spot that impressed me, rather that he was man enough to “eat crow” and tell him he LIED.
How many people do that?
I hunt in various parts of the West Michigan area and have to say that unhunted public land is nearly impossible to find. I’d have a hard time giving a spot away I worked to make my own for a few hunts out of the season. Especially since I hunt from the ground when so many are in a tree with several stands. I wouldn’t lie but I’m not going to roll out the red carpet for them either.
Dave was in a pretty specific and awkward situation. Someone asked him a specific question about a piece of land in an open area where terrain is absolutely crucial for success. There isn’t really a way out of that without looking like a jerk or lying.
Kudos again!
in reply to: My Hickory Long bow is finally done #53326Todd…I’m digging it buddy!
Nice work. A friend of mine is making self bows now and I’m really hoping that he can build me one at some point.
This thing screams ROBIN HOOD all over.

in reply to: Ultimate wood arrows #53322Rick is definitely the man!
I never would have considered woods without him, now I don’t want to shoot anything but.
in reply to: First group EVER with wood arrows #49158I had the exact same finish on mine as well. Kind of a bummer…I wanted to do it myself but I’m not stripping them.
in reply to: New Trad Archer in the family! #47759The crappy thing about this whole situation is that he was home the entire summer and had shown no interest in it. I made several trips home and we shot a few 3Ds too. That would have been great to have him!
Oh well…better late than never.
in reply to: Recurve or longbow your choice and why? #45710While I believe in definitions, they have nothing to do with why I shoot a bow.
I don’t shoot recurves because they make it harder to transition back to my longbows. I can’t do that. A lot of people can. Not me.

Wood arrows require a little more care than cans or carbons, and you need to start with good shafts. I see lots of them being bent just by the way folks pull them from the target. Just remember, if it can be straighteded, it can be bent. They also need to be well sealed. I’ve been shooting wood arrows for over 25 years and have some that old that are still straight.
Exactly. I don’t let anyone pull my arrows. I politely tell them I will get it myself. People tend to pull on an angle or twist. Yikes. It makes me cringe every time.Mine are holding up great. I just did another dozen out of some POC shafts I picked up from Lost Nation. Had I gotten to the Hastings shoot early I could have grabbed some from Fletcher but he was out.
FYI…I still like the Chundoo the best.
I’ll probably small game hunt with aluminums. I don’t care about them as much.
in reply to: First group EVER with wood arrows #45483You scratched your shaft Pat.
Awesome! I knew you would be hooked. I’ve got 3 1/2 dozen made up right now and there is no going back.
in reply to: Spirit Bows? #44761Congrats buddy! You will like it.

That would be a hybrid sir. Not a longbow. 😛
NO ITS A LONGBOW TOO. THE STRING DOESNT TOUCH THE LIMB LIKE A RECURVE. ITS A HYBRID LONGBOW!
I was being facetious…but I respectfully disagree. 😈We’ve all got our lines of definition. I won’t cross this one. Nothing wrong with them, but they are not what my definition of a longbow is.
I agree with Don too though. They are all stick and string and they are all nice. I do not condemn anyone’s choice in bows.
in reply to: Selecting a bow? #43161Unless they are the same style of bow with a lot of similarities, you are going to have discrepancies in flight. Not to mention – if the grips were at ALL different – they would have been foreign to you which will cause you to make several minor adjustments to your shooting. Maybe without even realizing it.
Thickness in handle and locater depth are huge. Again…how the shelf is cut are equally huge. Some risers place the arrow really close to your knuckle. Some have a higher shelves. Some are crowned, some are not crowned as much, etc.
in reply to: Spirit Bows? #43119I’ve got oodles of experience with Bamas. I own 2, a Hunter and Royal. Ripforce owns two. Cottonwood owns one. USMC owns one.
We all love ours but I really do not want to skew you one way or the other. I will say that Nathanael is a great guy and does excellent custom work for the price you pay. You get a lot of bow and it will be one of the lightest, quietest bows you will ever shoot.
If you are sold on the R/D design, Bama actually has one in the works but it isn’t ready yet. In fact, I should be testing the prototype soon but he is teasing me with it. lol
in reply to: Selecting a bow? #43114I echo what Ripforce said.
What arrows are you shooting? If you are perfectly tuned to a particular bow, switching to another will throw you off.
There are factors at play such as how much the bows are cut to center, arrow material, etc. Go up or down in point weight and give it a try.
in reply to: Howard Hill Tembo Very Disappointing #42530There was actually a show on Versus last night “Bucks of the Tecomete” or something like that??
Anyways…it featured an outfitter that was owned by a longbow hunter and they showed footage of him getting a nice buck from his stand.
It was actually a really good show. I got all excited just to see a longbow. They didn’t talk to him at all about it though.
