in reply to: Ground Hunting #18165
I’m a ground guy. I would like to try hunting from a stand though. When hunting in deep woods, it is hard to beat the vision that a stand provides.
I’m fairly certain my Dad and I would have came home with a couple of deer this year had that been the case.
Love hunting from the ground though! Especially in the winter months.
in reply to: Built my first quiver! #15911Thanks! It was so easy. I spent a lot more time planning and walking around the hardware store then I did actually building the thing.
Fox pelts just naturally make good quivers I think. I was actually going to try a bigger tube but the next size up was far too heavy.
in reply to: I discovered the ultimate quiver.. finally #9019Do you have a photo of the other side?
I’ve got a beautiful fox pelt that I want to attach to a homemade leather quiver my Mother-In-Law made me and this is what I want to use as a guide.
I can see how the feet were wrapped around. The head appears to have been removed, flipped over, and sewn back on the pelt backwards. Is this correct?
in reply to: Straight ends vs reflex/deflex #59801Kegan summed it up nicely.

For real, I’ll ask God to make my bow. Only it may be TOO good then. I’ll make my own arrows to balance it. 😆
While here on Earth I’m content with my Bama Royal and the new Cocobola Expedition I have on the way.
The next bow on my list would be a Holm-Made Osprey 62″. Great bows! I fell in love with one at the expo and am giving Chad BIG props.

I talked with Nathaniel from Bama bows for a couple hours and I think we came up with something pretty special. It sounds like it should be finished within 2 months. I’ll let you guys know how it turns out!
Nate’s actually told me a lot about your bow as it has improved substantially from the prototype he sent me based on my feedback and a few conversations we’ve had. And that bow was already good! In fact, he insisted I send mine back so he could tweak it and I’m waiting on it as well!
Best solution for any major bow dilemma – buy them both! 😆 I love it! You are going to end up with two great bows from two great bowyers!
in reply to: Kalamazoo Traditional Bowhunters Expo #57490I definitely think a Tradbow rendezvous is in order at one of these events. Maybe I can sneak away and camp at Compton for a night this year…provided we don’t get another hurricane. Not too crazy about camping with an infant in those conditions.
in reply to: Kalamazoo Traditional Bowhunters Expo #56663I wish Rip and I could have connected with some of you folks. Robin, I intended on coming back and chatting with you some more but by the time we started shooting bows it was already 8:45. lol With only one day to hang out at the show, we had to move fast!!!
Overall I had a GREAT time at the event. Allegheny had some excellent deals on shafts there. I picked up a dozen Ash and Fir shafts for under $60 and the Ash sets were matched well enough to be premiums. Haven’t checked the Fir yet but they were nice and straight.
I was really impressed with the majority of the venders and even had a chance to do some shooting.
Not sure if we are going to Compton this year Robin. I can really only hit two of them this year and I did more sweating than shooting at Compton last year.
in reply to: Arrow building #41892The GT 3555 should work as the 5575 is a whole lot stiffer than people give them credit for.
If you go with the CX, I would suggest a Heritage 350 over the 250. Especially with that kind of point weight. I shot a similar setup out of my 55# LB.
in reply to: First long bow #38941I would start with something in the 50lb range. I would tell you to shoot whatever you can get your hands on – but I just jumped in without looking. lol
Thought longbows would be a “fun excursion from my recurve”.
I haven’t shot a recurve since.
in reply to: New Bow Day – Never thought I'd like a 58" #33150What is your draw Montana?
in reply to: New Bow Day – Never thought I'd like a 58" #30975Bloodwood, Cocobola, and Bamboo!
I am loving that Bloodwood.
in reply to: New Bow Day – Never thought I'd like a 58" #30956I am pleasantly surprised by this bow. Felt a little too compact in my hands at first – kinda light. My Great Northern quiver fixed that. Loves a 2219 aluminum and an 80-80# cedar! I think I’m going to start rabbit hunting with it.
in reply to: Kalamazoo Traditional Bowhunters Expo #28714Ripforce and I are heading there on Friday night. Should get there shortly after it opens.
We’ll see Pat and Crooked from a mile away but we don’t know anyone else.
Do you guys want to meet up?
in reply to: anyone tried #26670buzzard wrote: LL; I have no way of posting pic’s. Simply take a 2-blade Eskimo and cut off the forward 1/3 of the head/point. Round it off with a grinder and sharpen. It’ll look like a shovel point. They rarely stick in hard/frozen tree roots, dirt, etc. If you try to use them “full length” as sold, the point can stick deeply in wood or roots and may bend badly when shot into the dirt. I shoot a lot of rabbits sitting in brush piles, old dump heaps, etc., and have found this to be the best setup so far, not to say it couldn’t be improved! I keep a couple of Tiger Claws in the bow quiver for shots where “skipping” might be a problem. Hope this helps! Buzzard
Ahhhhh…I confused shovel point with a tanto point. You actually cut 1/3 off and round it. That would most likely make the arrow want to glance off a root, etc if a miss occurs as well.
Good idea! I’ve got some old Zwicks…maybe I’ll try that.
