Mark.
Why a deeper v? I tried larger wheels with an overlap and the shaft keept getting stuck or falling through the v.
Maybe I didn’t get them close enough together? The bases are so large!
in reply to: Homemade arrow spinner #33678Thats a good idea too!
in reply to: Bohning Paints #32764ooooohhhhh paranormal looking! I like it. 😀
in reply to: String Silencers what is the best for you ? #18360I tried the leather as well and it seems to work just fine. I prefer Beaver Balls at the end of the day. I shoot a D-style longbow though and do not require a whole lot of suppression. The beaver simply lessons the string vibration a bit.
…oh and it looks cool too! 😛
A naked bowstring just seems odd to me.

Let’s not! 😆

in reply to: Cresting – anyone do it without a machine? #59238Good looking work Stump!
Man I’m fired up. I’m slowly going back through my arrows and cresting those I haven’t done. Basically removing the top layers of poly with sandpaper, cresting, and recoating.
I want to do another set and have a great idea but all I have left is a bunch of raw 100# Ramon’s and there isn’t any way that I can shoot those monsters!!
Anyone have a really really heavy bow on here?

Though not as short as Dave’s Shrew Calssics, it is short for a longbow. It shoots great but I am going to add a bow quiver. I beleive it will add just enough weight if I get a 4 arrow strap on. It is naturally camo’ed with the muted and darkened wood combination, finished with a flat finish. The curly grain jumps out when the light hits it just so. Pretty, in my opinion. Anyway, good choice for a short longbow.
I prefer a bowquiver on short bows like this as well. Seems natural to me.
My new Bama Expedition is currently in production. I can’t wait to have an adventure with it.
Jim Reynolds does make a great bow. I haven’t shot a Thunderstick I didn’t like.

I did not chop those although I now have a chopper. Those are the last of a large quantity I bought back in the 90’s. Wish I could remember the name of the mail order outfit I got them from. The quality was very good.
DuncanI love them. Barred banana cuts are my favorite.
Here is another set I finished on Sunday. 80# Ramon. I tried two kinds of stain and crested in the center. I used the drying rack and spun them by hand again. I kind of like doing them this way. Not as accurate, but adds a bit of personality.
Duncan – I have to credit you for the inspiration of using two different stains. I don’t know why that hadn’t occurred to me before.
in reply to: Cresting – anyone do it without a machine? #52882These are great Duncan! Did you chop those magnum feathers?
in reply to: Any thoughts on these bows? #52881I’ve heard of them but I’ve never tried anything. I debated on ordering a Hickory flat bow and discussed poundage with them but that is as far as I got. I would still like to try one – or a War Bow.
I’ve heard good things about them on other forums. A mod on another forum tested the R/D Bamboo backed longbow and had nothing but good things to say about it.
The only negative I’ve ever heard is that their poundage seems to vary quite a bit from what you order. That may just be a rumor.
in reply to: Cresting – anyone do it without a machine? #42144Stump – as I mentioned on Trad Gang..that is a great idea! I love the way you do these.
Here are some of mine. I’ve been using fast drying latex as it cleans up with water easier. I’d probably use different paint with a lathe. Again, I painted these by hand with the drying rack in the photo. It was trying at times but a lot of fun.
The Sage isn’t bad. I know several people who have purchased them for their wives, kids, other friends who were interested in shooting…etc. I noticed they upgraded quick.
The Deer Master is a great bow. I had a Phantom T/D and loved it and Ripforce had a Red Stag that was an excellent bow.
It would definitely be worth the extra money to buy either of the bows above. The Stag is going to be the best bow for the money IMO. Either will have better limbs than the Sage.

I’m the same way. I’ve found a great deal of pride in finding natural cover. I killed my first whitetail from natural cover in 2009 and had several opportunities last year given the same situation. I simply wasn’t comfortable and moved FAR too much.
I struggle with the thought of a treestand because it seems easier than what I’m doing now. On the other hand, the Michigan whitetail is a very twitchy and intelligent animal. You can go crazy trying to pattern and figure them out. Especially with the crazy weather fluctuations we’ve had in the last two years. It could blizzard one day and rain the next. Ultimately, I want realistic opportunities and these can be few and far between where I hunt.
