Yeah ordered from ABS in November and got them the end of May. I think they went through a new tooling process or something???? but now they have them –

in reply to: ABS Ashby Broadhead #60518Was gonna try the new redesigned 160 grizzs or the 200s grandes. I never tried the grandes but have used the 160s old style alot. This new deal should cut out alot of file time which is cool. But for now think this 315 jobber might be worth a crack, though expensive.
I always thought thos old 160s were indestructable – mine have taken some serious punishment in the back yard – and couple critters but still have some of my original 6 – need a sharpen but ready to go.J
in reply to: HOW SHARP IS SHARP ENOUGH? #54724I want to be scared when handling mine!, I can get em prety dang sharp with a stone but since I started using the paper wheels from ABS – there is no going back. Still keep my file on me in the field, just in case; but then where I hunt I carry three arrows and am highly unlikely to have to resharpen before hitting the house again. Those paper wheels will truly make an edge that will frighten you in 2 minutes or less.
Sharpen them all grizzlys, STOS, that I normally use and then wrap em in duct tape so as not to beat up my edge till they go on the end of an arrow. IDEA: might carry a couple spares wrapped in DTape in the pack?in reply to: internal footing ? #54581Tom-Wisconsin wrote: In update 2007 Dr. Ashby talked about giving a manufacturer research material on IF. I think?? Raptor archery has one available
in reply to: 200 grain El Grandes????? #8692Cool – since I need right bevels I think I will give these 200s a shot! literally
J
in reply to: 200 grain El Grandes????? #64102Well they still have the 190 listed along with the 200?? I know 200 was in the works as the “latest greatest” so had my hopes up!

Course I ordered some of the Ashby heads from ABS to try though as of now it will be awhile for they find blood.
in reply to: Mountain lion vs deer #15355That pic I am unsure whether real or not photoshopped or not but in any way a 150lb WT would be nothing for a cat. They take down elk, even big healthy bulls. Pretty amazing predators.

in reply to: Mountain lion vs deer #15350Yeah been claimed here in eastern NC too.
in reply to: 2008 Study Update just posted #15335Well I think alot of people are cathcing on to Ashby’s stuff. I dropped the money and ordered a pack of the ABS Asby heads. they called today to tell me they would be out until sometime in December! 🙁 my new and improved Ashby arrows will have to wait for the finishing touches! LOL (BHd)
AK Bow supply are some great folks to deal with – cant wait to check the sharpness of that head. Will have to go on a hog hunt somewhere to try em though.

in reply to: ammo selection #10525Never messed with the Grizstiks but look at the glue on heads where you can add a good heavyweight adapter. Or when you order the grizstiks look into some of AKs “Ashby” BHds – heavy and already have the screw in there.
No need to be trad – Hey the Doc probably answer your question for ya. He is round here somewhere.

in reply to: trad vs. compound #7846Sorry but YUCKKKK! to a compost bow! 🙄
Like many I started out with an old recurve then my dad got me a compound. I never did use a release always fingers – but all the other techno stuff really just turned me off of them. When I hunted with a compound I would not shott at a animal over 30 yards – I coul dshoot accurate to 75 on the range – With my curve my limit on critters is 25 with a 40 yard max on the range.
I truly beleive side by side a recurve is a better HUNTING weapon than a compost bow – albeit it has to be in the hands of someone with the deidication to make it so.J
in reply to: New Grizzly coming soon! #58696anyone heard anything yet?
in reply to: Grizzly tough! #53313Snuffy I looked at that brown bear! looks good. But I hope grizzly is coming out with a friendlier head soon. I found it a little time consuming to get these right but I got em there and sharp. I have no experience with what they do on animals yet as first season with them.

I wonder what critter Doc can get his hands on to test their limits? But in the end after reading the Doc’s reports he has more than enough data to draw some pretty good conclusions.
Well when you tote a 1100 grain arrow and 90# compound you are carrying a sledge hammer to do a job that the Doc showed can be accomplished with the framing hammer!
Dead is dead and 1100 grain arrows could stop a freight train. BUT the point is that a longbow which was lighter #/less efficient with optimized arrows achieved the same results. Not sure the longbow was more efficient or less efficient than the wheelie or not but it used every bit of what power it had efficiently. Pretty strong point/backing for the arrow studies.
Agree dead is dead, no one argueing that, but I know I am not shooting a 90 pound bow accurately/hence it is nice to know I could utilize the studies to achieve this same result. I know I am not going over 65/70 on my curve (prefer 55!) and be accurate.
Neat info to be had,
J
