I agree with Ralph. Your setup will take game just fine with a well-placed shot.
in reply to: 1st Tradbow Harvest #62574Awesome! Congrat’s on your success.
in reply to: Great Quiver #58829Yeah, I like Bigjim’s. Hsve ordered a few things from him and would love one of his bows. I use a Safari Tuff side quiver, but if I decide to go bow quiver, the BigJim Bow Quiver is first in line.
in reply to: Your First Few Years Into Trad Bowhunting? #58036Trad does just feel right. I tried a compound for a year in the late 1980s but never really felt comfortable with it. (I’d been shooting recurves since the Boy Scouts in the late 1960s and early 1970s.) I sold that compound and bought a longbow and have never looked back.
in reply to: Cooking recipes for mallard? #54669There are a few yummy-sounding recipes in the winter Field and Stream. Really made me drool reading them.
in reply to: LL Bean Anniv Hunting Shoes #54663Yes, Dave, the gum material is the same. (I work for LL Bean here in Maine.) The 100th Anniversary Maine Hunting Shoe has the red sole because Bean’s thinks this is very similar the what LL’s original boots looked like. Great boots all around. I say go for them, and not just because I’m an employee. I, like LL Bean, stand behind this product.
in reply to: Cabin to cabin #54660Happy Holidays, everyone.
in reply to: Christmas Card #47007Happy Holidays to you and to all TradGangers and their families. Nice photo, by the way.
in reply to: Hipsters who hunt #41355Thanks for your reply, Robin. I do understand keeping a trad bowhunting forum all trad bowhunting. There are many other forums on the net to discuss these other topics.
in reply to: Hipsters who hunt #41214Might be kind of nice to have a forum set up for off-topic discussions like organic vegetable production, or anything else for that matter.
in reply to: When You Were A Kid With A Bow….. #40635When I was 7 my parents took the family to Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We camped in one of the campgrounds notorious for bear visitations to the garbage cans. One night my dad noticed me missing from around the campfire and began his search. He found me stalking with my kiddie bow with suction cup arrows within 10 feet of a large black bear who was feeding on trash from a can. Needless to say, he got me out of there and back to the fire where the family tale began of “Jeff and the Bear.”
in reply to: Hipsters who hunt #40160Great article. I’m a liberal, organic vegetable farmer who’s been hunting for 40 years (I’m 50 now). There are lots of us out there in the woods, being respectful to the animals. The animals play the game by the rules, they don’t cheat. We owe it to them to do the same.
in reply to: My toes are frozen……. #40150Great advice here. I do agree with not binding your legs or feet. You’ll never keep warm if the blood’s not flowing.
in reply to: Brace Height #32054Dave, Thanks for the insightful reply. There certainly is a lot to tuning a bow, but the process is fun, not dreadful. I’m lucky in that I have the time to shoot everyday, and with each day I’m getting more and more comfortable and accurate. I’ve not shot in over 10 years (Navy contractor), but am home now and am excited to get back into trad bowhunting. Thanks again for all of the comments. Have a great day.
