[quote=Flintlock]I just bought a Shakespeare Neceda model X-26, 45 lb, 58 inches long recurve. What arrows would you recommend I use with this bow? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
What’s your draw length? Do you intend to do a lot of stump shooting and small game hunting or just the occasional deer and a bunch of target practice? Are you going to “roll your own” or buy them finished?
I like Douglas fir which I 12″ taper myself and pretty up with simple leather dye and Sharpie permanent markers and Pilot metallic ink pens.
My draw length is 29 inches, will use the bow pretty much as you described, may ad some carp shooting. I will buy arrows finished. Why do you like the tapered arrow?

Will be using the bow for small game, some bowfishing for carp and possibly some deer hunts. Mostly target shooting .

I would use any wood arrow spined 45-50#. You do not mention your draw length. My draw length is 29 inches
Alos with this particular bow I would slide part of a tooth pick behind the leather on the arrow shelf and the strike plate. I did that to my Shakespeare back in the 70’s and it improved arrow flight a great bit.
in reply to: Traditional Bowhunting Interest? #38529I havent picked up a long bow since I was a kid in middle and high school. It was yew wood with wood arrows. Had a short stint with a compound bow but didnt like it and sold it. Got into muzzle loader hunting since the early 70s. So this past fall I retired and bought a Rudderbows longbow with some ash arrows. Bought the Traditional Bowhunters Handbook off this website and I will have at it again. Hope to start on carp shooting this spring!:!:
