Good luck with the turkies. I have to wait till the 23rd, but then again we have a lot of snow yet here in MI.

            78 pounds? Quite a load there.
OK for backpacking I’ll try to rundown my pack. I always use 3 pairs of socks (rotate often to keep feet dry), change of clothes for around camp and ssleeping, camp sandles, small camp towel, first aid kit, toiletrees, headlamp, small stove, 1 pot and cup, spork, lighter/matches, bugdope, sunblock, tent, sleeping bag, pad, rope, some duct tape, knife, water bottles, food, rain gear. I’m sure I am forgetting stuff.
Remember to tell them to forget bringing the cotton clothes

Boiling, of course works, but has its problems. Need time to boil. Have to wait for cool water to drink. You use up more fuel for what stove you use. Those filter bottles are great for dipping into a nice cold stream. Steri-pen has same advantages

lol, ok I don’t quite know how to take that. Do you like them? Better than a tent? You said you froze in them. I take it that with the pad you stay warm?

Hmm, I’ve never heard it mentioned, but I could see where they could hear what a dog does. If you have a dog, does it seem to take notice of them? I just wouldn’t think the aids would put out enough of anything for an animal to hear. My 2cents

Thanks. I know the one brand I was looking at has a large tarp/ rainfly that extends out. They show how you can sit on the side of the hammock and cook while the fly still covers you. I know they mention using some type of pad in cooler weaather for warmth. Since its usually cold up here for bow season, I wonder if it would be too cold and uncomfortabble.

Are you talking about those add on filters that go on your kitchen faucet? The problem with those would be, how do you get the water through it from a spring? I also don’t know how much they weigh

LOL, yeah if I wanted to poach, I would carry a spear:roll:
There was an article years ago about a guy here in MI who hunted bears with a spear. I know people who take hogs with a big knife, so where is a spear different?
BTW- on the other extreme, I read an article where a guy used a homemade Civil War cannon to hunt deer:shock:
