Me preparing to jump into the south fork of the payette river. I’d guess the temp in the mid thirties. Luckily there was a hot spring right behind me to jump into after.

in reply to: Shipping a bow! #61639Luckily I have the insurance on it and am upgrading!:D
Really no end to it, if it’s outdoors.
Turkey Hunting
Duck Hunting
Fishing (mostly trout, stripers, smallmouth, etc)
Backpacking
Dayhiking with my wife and walker hounds
Cold Beers with Friends
Canoeing (though I don’t do it enough)
Camping
Reading
I’ve also gotten back into the gym big time as of late and really cherish sore muscles and climbing mountains.

Then he offered to let me shoot his WIDOW . It was a real pleasure . At that time I was shooting a Howatt Hunter . It was no slouch . Beautiful , and full of life it was . But , that Widow was sweet . I didn’t do as well as the feller that owned it , but , I didn’t do too bad . It was one of those ”NEVER FORGET IT ” experiences .
It took me years to get over that.
I have a howatt monterey (rosewood hunter)
Great bow too! I’m really pumped!
After speaking to a lot of people who, now once again live in wolf country, I hope you kill all of them.
Wolverines are another story. They have a really tough time. Our wolves that have been re-stocked are here to stay. They’re like coyotes in the southeast. No getting rid of them.
in reply to: Shipping a bow! #60788Here’s what I just did.
I shipped my recurve, arrows, and everything else I needed out to Idaho in a 6″ piece of drainage pvc (sch 20). I padded everything inside and capped the ends with sch 40 pvc caps.
I sent it via UPS and both end caps were smashed to pieces when they arrived. My bow was backed with snake skins and the lower limb skin cracked and delaminated. I was blown away.
Luckily, I had insurance on it and will be getting a nicer bow out of the deal!!

Hope you have great success with the Black Widow
No. It was a Samick that I had backed with two copperhead skins. Hate to lose it. I had killed a deer and a pig with it this year.
in reply to: Mental Clutter and Stump Shooting #59683I wish I could have done some in Idaho this week, but the soil there is of decomposed granite and would destroy my arrows pretty quick.
in reply to: 23 Days Left!! #59536They haven’t had snow out there for close to a month. Really ridiculous.
I can tell you one thing: People who claim hound hunting is too easy have never tried it in poor conditions. I hiked every day with those dogs. 2-5 miles per day at 5500 feet with climbs of 1200-1500 per day. It was brutal on me for eight days in a row. Loved every minute of it.
in reply to: 23 Days Left!! #59461Well, it didn’t happen for me. We had horrible conditions with no snow so we bare ground hunted all week. We treed an old female the first day but I lost the coin toss with my buddy and he killed it.
I had an unbelievable time and saw so much great country. Don’t know how many elk we saw but it was in the thousands, plus mule deer, fox, eagles, etc.
It was the trip of a lifetime and I have no regrets. Will post pictures as soon as I can.
in reply to: new Damon Howatt ventura #45102Don’t know anything about it but I love my Howatt Monterey.
