in reply to: two or three blade broadhead for hog hunt? #41225
Simmons all the way. I am a huge proponent of the tree shark.
in reply to: Stone Arrowheads #41028Im finding a lot of flint and quartz chips while turkey hunting but havent found a whole head since winter. Only a matter of time though. We are getting a lot of rain.

South of Tucson, not far from Sonoita.
Great sig line Bruce!
“Who’s got a million dollars in the back of their car?”
Bruce, I’m jealous. You will be amazed.
Bear hunting is the biggest hypocrisy in my life. I love them like I can’t even express but I still hunt them. Every bear I’ve ever killed has been accompanied by an overwhelming feeling of sadness as well.
Once you have spent much time with them, or read Kilham’s books, they command a different sort of respect than the rest of our “game” animals.
in reply to: Two Tracks String Scallops #14351These carbon backed bows have a sound all their own. Its sort of a “thnk” if that makes any sense. I also prefer it at a slightly different brace height than is the quietest because I find it to be more forgiving on short draws.
I actually moved them around today while stumping and got them about equal as the yarn puffs. Just have to use two pairs on mine.
Their ease of install is my favorite thing about them.
in reply to: Two Tracks String Scallops #13706My opinion is that they dont compare to wool for silencing. I put four on my zipper to make up for the two yarn balls I took off and it still isnt as quiet. I expected this because they are so small but needed to see it for myself after so many good reviews.
There was no noticeable difference in arrow flight or speed between the two.
I don’t have much personal experience with wolves. Been to Canada 15 times and to Idaho once. I’ve seen their tracks a lot and heard them once. Awesome critters.
Personally, the only animal that I would feel the need to carry a gun or bear spray for is the two large bears. Black bears, pigs, lions, wolves, coyotes, etc….I just don’t worry about. If I go that way, then so be it.
If it’s a black bear that does me in….well, hell, I guess they probably owed me one.
in reply to: mushrooms and elk..i think.. #11306I’ve enjoyed every mushroom I’ve ever eaten. The ones that secrete purple juices were especially satisfying.
in reply to: Two Tracks String Scallops #11300I think they’re prejudiced against us southerners.
I really can’t blame them though.
in reply to: Two Tracks String Scallops #11284My order went through on the 5th. On the 8th, I put orders in at big jim and at three rivers. My big jim order came in yesterday and my three rivers order is due tomorrow. Still no scallops.
in reply to: Two Tracks String Scallops #9070Mine still haven’t arrived 🙁 and no amount of checking the mailbox seems to be helping.
I will have a full report from a black widow recurve and a carbon backed hybrid that is pretty noisy without the silencers.
in reply to: question about stoves #62908I’ve had a primus. They’re great and super light. As was mentioned, the only issue is lighting one in cold temps. I’ve had trouble with them from 20 and below.
in reply to: mushrooms and elk..i think.. #62880This thread got me thinking about morels. Won’t be long!
in reply to: Signs of Spring #61937Crappie were moving into shallower water but the cold and snow really dropped the temps and moved them back out to 25′.
It was 27 when I ran up the lake this morning and now I’m wearing shorts. I noticed yesterday that our big winter turkey flocks are starting to break up a bit and I have seen a ton of sandhills flying north in the last week.
in reply to: Emergency Gear #61229Back here in GA the furthest I am ever from a road while hunting is about 6 miles. That would be either bear hunting in September or turkey hunting in the spring. Either way, the weather is not terrible worrisome (to say the least) and water can be found within a mile of anywhere. All I ever carry survival-wise is a compass, two lighters, and a ziplock full of cotton balls dipped in vaseline.
If I were hunting out west, I would want more.
