I ran into a guy recently that was 73 that could still do twice as many pull ups as me.
Bunyan?
No. Bunyan cant even do ten!!
in reply to: Crossfit and hunting? #30787I lift upper body twice a week. I do pushes (chest, shoulders, triceps) one day, and pulls (back, biceps, traps) another day. I lift heavy. I used to be into really heavy lifting and 5 or more days a week but I’ve gotten away from the real crazy stuff and do a lot more cardio now. I do two days of cardio which consists of running and or stair climbers of at least 5 miles. Beyond that, I do a ton of physical activity daily at my job and remain very active with bear scouting, hiking at my hunting lease, and walking my dog twice a day. I’ve always been told never to “lose it” and I don’t plan on it. I believe 100% that the key to staying young and fit is maintaining muscle mass and I’m planning on doing that.
I see guys at my gym in their 60s still benching over 400lbs and I ran into a guy recently that was 73 that could still do twice as many pull ups as me.

Sorry Joe, I do not remember the seat you speak of. Is it the little tripod seat in my garage?

I get a big kick out your posts and pics . No doubt a man that can take care of himself in the woods .
Hope you get plenty of personal time with that BIG bear.
Keep it coming .
Super nice of you to say. North Ga is largely covered by the Chattahoochee National Forest. Our bear population just sort of exploded about 6 or 8 years ago and now there are more bear than deer up there. A lot more. Finding them is not really hard if you are willing to put in a lot of miles in the summer. The acorn crop varies year to year and that determines where they will be in the fall. This year they will be scattered all over with a massive white oak crop from the high ridges all the way down to the bottoms.
As for that bear, I’m not sure I want to get a shot at him. I’ve been around bears my whole life and killed my first bear before my first deer, but he really makes me shiver a bit. Not to mention the fact that he’s living almost five miles from the truck!! It would take a lot of good buddies to get him out, even in quarters.

in reply to: North GA Bear 2014 #22935Did about 12 miles today. Saw two bear and a ton of sign. Still an overabundance of acorns. Bears are eating nothing but blackberries at the moment. From the looks of their marking trees, there was a very strong rut up there this year. Pines were marked everywhere and with much more gusto than I’ve seen before. I pulled my camera that has been out for about a month over a marking tree and was shocked by how big this boy is. He came by daily until the card filled up. He was there five times in one day. Biggest pic of a bear I’ve seen from down here.

in reply to: Southwest DIY Javelina Hunts? #18371I’m in woodstock, GA. Everyone is welcome!
I’m really excited about this. Around August, I’ll start trying to draw some info from some of you locals and pouring over aerials. This should be a blast! Hell, I would have driven out there just to hike and camp in the desert for the firs time, but tradbow hunting three species of big game plus plenty of jackrabbits and quail might make this the trip of a lifetime.
Third week in January everyone!
in reply to: North GA Bear 2014 #11326Went up again yesterday to check a different area. I found an awesome ridge. Covered in big white oaks that were loaded with acorns. A main bear trail running down in with every rock and log on the hill turned over. I also saw a very good bear at about 2pm. I’ll try to post some pictures up.
I have two more places to check before the end of summer but so far it’s looking pretty pretty pretty good.
Pig sign was lacking which surprised me a lot. All blackberries and blueberries were loaded and bears should be very thick come fall.
