What a great website Archer52, you know, we never know what can happen when working with sharp or dull steel, am glad you are stitched up and getting ready for your next hunt. Complacency is a bad thing and I myself fall to many times in the same situation. Get better real soon and thank you for posting your website……guess what I will be doing to my old Danner boots tomorrow???? I was wondering this fall time how I was going to get rid of the little leaks that caused wet feet and now I know, thank you !!!!!
Wishing you and your family a very nice day and keep sharing those great stories and pictures on your web site, it brought me back in time to when my father was hunting in the early 70’s.

in reply to: WHICK WOOD WOULD YOU US #28933This is just a question but what type of equipment do you need to build a bow. I think I would like to give this a try. When talking with elders in the sub acrtic region of Canada, they remember seeing their elders using white spruce branches, the really big ones that had dried at the base of the tree.

in reply to: Anyone else hate gun season? #24651The word hate to me is very hurtful. Too much hatred in this world, many first nation people with kind hearts hunt with guns to survive. Many of the families I know here don’t have running water or enough to feed their kids. Gun hunting is not only a way for them to gather food and has been their way of life.
Allowing one to choose what is right, allowing the people to choose the weapons of their choice, isn’t that what our fathers, mothers, oncles, brothers and sisters are doing right now, in Afganistan, fighting for our freedom. I apologize for bringing this up but I try and avoid the word hate all together.
No, I don’t disagree with guns as a form of hunting. I carry a CZ 375 H&H American Safari magnum whenever I guide for the local outfitters and have used it in the past to help families in need fill their freezers, its called a subsistance community hunter.
Thanking all of you for allowing me to share my opinion, and I would like to mention we do not have people up here that disrespect others while hunting, perhaps I would have a different point of view if I had people abusing their rights in our area.
Respecting what everyone has to say.
SBin reply to: PAYING FOR PERFORMANCE OR NAME? #22128Yes, I forgot to mention Bill has a take down longbow called the Non-Typical. Should have mentioned that, good observations, though 🙂

in reply to: PAYING FOR PERFORMANCE OR NAME? #21831In terms of longbows, I have tried many of them. Then one day, I tried a Brackenbury Quest recurve, it was set at 63″ @28″ and it immediately made me smile. By that I mean smile in capital letters. About a year before, I had owned a BW recurve, it was nice, the draw was smooth but to my surprise, Bill Howland had something special. Not only was his design simple but his craftsmanship is incredible. So after explaining the cold weather issues I was hunting in, he made me a bow that fit my circumstances, remaining accessible 7 days a week. And in the back of my mind, I was wondering what the Non-Typical longbow design hype was all about. So I ordered one.
This take down lonbow is so much in a class of its own, the feel of the riser in your hand is next to none, the draw is so smooth and there is Zero hand shock. What is so special with that bow is the manner it casts out these heavy arrows, you have to see it to believe it. Now as it pertains to the Non Typical, it still makes me smile today.
Is the non-typical longbow worth the money Bill charges for it, my answer is absolutely and more.
Do they shoot as good as they look, my answer is yes. Are they worth the wait, again, absolutely.
With that being said, as long as you are satisfied with the bow your shooting, that is all that counts. The post I wrote is based on my opinion and all the bowyers I have spoken too in my lifetime were and still are class acts, Bill Howland is one of these.

in reply to: AZ Coues hunters? #21724I can only suggest mountain caribou Dave, had a few locals complain how they needed to wait for these curious caribou to move off the skidoo trail they were on the other day 🙂
Made me laugh, and they were really upset too 🙂
I edited my post because I had a question about coues deer. They are the smallest in the deer family if I’m right, are tree stands the best methods to hunt them? Being that small, they must be on high alert, pretty jittery all the time.
