in reply to: Questions about my bareshaft tuning today. #14443
[quote=handirifle]Sounds to me like Troy nailed it. It sure seems like your form changed when you went from vertical to cant. I’m assuming you’re shooting right handed?
quote]I’m a right handed shooter and i do agree with possible form change. Yet my anchor point is consistant. It sure does feel like i missed something in my bareshafting. I have to admit that i was quite fatigued as i continued to bareshaft, cutting 1/4 inch at a time from 31″ to 29″. I will go at it again with my arrows and post as soon as i can get back to a range. 20yds is about all i can honestly say I can shoot comfortably. I really want to follow the rules stated in Bareshafting 101 but can i get away with canting?

When you finished the bare shaft testing did you shoot fletched shafts and bare shafts to compare their point of impact, relative to each other? If so, were they impacting together at that time?

(29″ Beman ICS C2 Camo Hunters @ 10.1 gpi. W/100grn. insert and a 250grn. fieldtip)
All shots with bareshaft and 100grn. insert and a 250grn. fieldpoint. Veriticle shots @ 20 yards were all to the left about 5 inches and Canted shots were 5 inches to the right. So I shortened my arrow to 29″ and shot verticle and still had shots to the left 5 to 6 inches and Canted were dead Center with tight groups. I did not shoot fletched arrows. Will the fletching possible change my point of impact? I understand i should have stayed either to the left or right of my Center Tape line on my target. I hope i explained myself right. I’ll see if i can post picks of my tuning. This really confused me.in reply to: Just tuned my arrows for Nilgai #10892Dr. Ed Ashby wrote: We’ll be waiting for the photos!

in reply to: 100 grain for ICS 400 #10844dwcphoto wrote: Hi Folks,
Do you know a source for 100 grain brass inserts for Beaman ICS 400/500 shafts? Their site lists inside diameter of 9/32, I think. Is that correct? Thanks! dI would try 3 rivers. I shoot ics camo bowhunters 5/16. They do offer smaller diameters but do not specify size in the 100 grns inserts. I would try giving them a call. These guys are always very helpful
in reply to: Does a few extra grains make a difference? #61243How heavy are you willing to go with an ultra light arrow such as the (Speed)? UEFOC will be attained but at the loss of total arrow weight right? Then again show much weight are you thinking of loading up front and out of what Pound bow? If you set these arrows up I’d really like to hear how they went. It sounds like the perfect arrow in the making.

I nock my arrow in the same fashion. Is it supposed to face in? Has anybody had any real obvious set backs with Left Helical such as less penetration, (shooting Single bevel BH’s) or actually having a Bh’s come completely loose.

That’s exactly the point I was trying to get across. You just simplified it for me. In anycase I’m gonna have to do some testing to be sure. Thanks 2blade

Its looking like Tuffhead’s and Abowyer’s are the two final picks for this year. Now I just have to narrow it down to the ONE I will favor and train with up until Hunting Season.

TroyKing Ranch? Ouch. I’ve been able to work there due to my job and I will only dream of Hunting There. As for Nilgai Meat, I have some buddies that harvest a couple each year on their leases and I can confirm that Nilgai meat is Delicious only second to Scimitar oryx in my opinion. Man, have you seen the going rate for Hunting on the King Ranch or any of the adjacent Ranches? In anycase it is doable, I was wondering if anyone here had any experience hunting these guys. Ill be stalking them this year on a public hunt in Texas.

Yes I should be content. The arrows im shooting are 8grns per inch and I’m not sure if i can drop the heavy insert and add another 10 grains without affecting flight. I’m really set on using those Abowyer BH’s. They are similar in shape to the Ashby’s. I’m just concerned with the hardness. I read that Ashbys BH’s (prototypes) chipped because of hardness issues. He’s since had the issue corrected. I kinda got off track. ……..ill start again tomorrow

these guys on youtube are way to advanced for me as of yet. They work entirely to fast. I was hoping somebody out there could recommend something theyve already seen.
in reply to: Recurve setup #56111David Petersen wrote: My first “real” bow was a Pearson . Those older recurves with their very wide limbs were prone to twisting because everyone used the step-through bracing method back then. And ebay bows are famous for twisted limbs. Maybe Jawg or another vintage collector can be of more help. dp
I do appreciate you guys sharing your knowledge with me. I’ll take a look at his bow and see if I can take a little noise out of it with your advise. Now all we have to do is coax him into hunting and getting a little stronger bow.

Thanks a for the input guys. I’m really looking forward to knapping my own arrow heads. I gotta say that I’ve fallen in love with Trad bow hunting just as much as Saltwater Flyfishing…
