in reply to: New issue out? #10149
Don’t have the subscription yet, but just got mine off the rack for $4.95
in reply to: Needless to say, the arrow did not penetrate #8942I have tried to lead many to the living waters of the heavy arrow, and Dr Ed Ashby’s report. But like a knott headed horse they refuse to drink of the living waters.
in reply to: First Trad Whitetail Buck…. DOWN #8318Guy’s thanks so much. As you may know I have had one of the hardest bowhunting seasons to date, as I also hunt from the ground or blind. But it has been the most rewarding season of all, and today I sealed the deal in honor of my friend and fellow trad bower Rick Ricks who passed away from cancer this last year.
This season had more close encounters and misses, but so rewarding I would not trade it for anything.
Getting a whitetail with my traditional bow – totally awesome, but spending the time with my son in the woods, and having it happen with him – Priceless!
in reply to: Great video, great music #62016Treetopper, I’m sorry it offended you… BUT, even though we can not bait here in Montana, just to the west of me is Idaho where they can, and do. There are many states where this is legal. In my book its no differant than hunting an apple orchard where there are dropped apples, and the bear and deer often come in and are taken.
Many friends of mine use feeder stations in Texas, where again its legal to do so.
I know it rubbed your ethics grain the wrong way, but not everyone has the same ethics as each and every one of us here.
in reply to: Tapered Shafts #61622Bounty Hunter, first of all I want to say welcome aboard here, you finally made it over. I can’t answer your question as I have not shot them.
in reply to: New Member #59416Welcome Catfish, now when I hear see that name I’m gonna think of hushpuppies too. 😛
in reply to: Personal Observations: Broadheads & Sharpening #59087Patric, I’m still using the Zwickey Eskimo 150 gr threaded, as I can get these sharp. I haven’t put any big game down with these yet, but will report when I do. If I wasn’t using the Zwickey Eskimo’s, I would be using the Eclispe 145 gr 2 blade dbl bevel.
in reply to: Our general season opens tomorrow #58667Well it seem’s that those does, just knew it was bucks only now. I started to see some movement to my left of the blind, and wouldn’t you know it… does walking with in striking range.
So I shot them with the video camera.
After a while, I moved out on a stalk, and found 3 bucks across the upper pasture, but at about 200 yards out moving towards the fence from the adjoining property. I have been trying to get a pattern on where and how they were moving. Seeing several bucks together, kinda shows that the rut just has not started yet.
I didn’t get them on video.
in reply to: I joined a traditional group in my state #57553Never mind my last post, I got my answers from Larry Baker of TBofMT, and have more of an open prospective now. Sorry for the rant above in my original post.
I can see clearly now 😆
in reply to: I joined a traditional group in my state #57482Larry O. Fischer wrote: Hey, we here at Traditional Bowhunter appreciate the plug and your involvement here on the site. However, I’m a life member of the Traditional Bowhunters of Montana, an they have one heck of good banquet each January at Chico Hot Springs. A good place to meet others from Montana and great place to bring your significant other for a weekend of fun. If you have not received a newsletter since before the Longbow Safari, don’t feel bad nobody else has.
I would suggest that you give Billy Lewis a call 406-220-1837, and see what you can do to lend and hand in banquet planning and make plans to be there in January. See you there!Larry thanks for the response. I had contacted our contact at TradGang but never got any response. Maybe you could enlighten me on why only longbows at Fawn Creek even for the Safari? And only wooden arrows with broadheads to be used at the Safari.
in reply to: Any other Bear Archery enthusiasts here? #57195I have 3 vintage 70 Bears, Super Kodiak Grayling, Magnum and a Hunter. The other two vintage recurves are Browning Wasp.
in reply to: Is this safe? #56486You can use a hair dryer to soften the wrap, and it will not damage the carbon shaft. Then use a small amount of acitone on a rag to clean the shaft before fletching or putting another wrap on.
in reply to: Our general season opens tomorrow #56462Well I headed out this afternoon, and got in my blind having some rain but not much. I decided to head off into the woods, to stalk around wearing ASAT today and my orange vest that is striped out as well. On the back side of the property, I found a buck that was a nice 8 point, but just a bit to far, as it looked about 35 yards with some branches in the way. I had to try and creep ever so slowly to get a bit closer. I got to with in about 23 yards, and as I was raising my bow up for the shot, he turned and was gone like the ghost of the woods.
I waited a while before heading back towards my blind, as it was starting to rain again. I sat there till almost dark, observing several does wonder thru, but they are hands off as it is bucks only.
Just as the light was really getting low, I noticed movement in the upper pasture of a large bodied grey ghost, one I had not seen before but could tell that it was much larger than the buck I had seen earlier. To far out past the tree line, and I was at least 100 yards up in the timber. I headed out the other way, to cut around where I thought he might come out as I had about 10 minutes of legal shooting light left.
I arrived where I thought he would be, but he had not come thru as I could tell. Well, I figure its all good, because he didn’t see me, but I saw him and tomorrow is another day in my bowhunting world.
