Welcome Drew. I am a new member also. I totally agree with you on the TV shows. I gave up compounds in 1991 when I met Harry Elburg. I’ve been shooting longbows and recurves ever since and have never had more fun bowhunting. I’m a CO in Indiana and have personally seen the effects of those tasteless, egotisical shows. All I know is that many hunters now want their hunt to be as easy as possible and don’t have a clue what woodmanship is. They’d rather plant a food plot, build what as a kid I called a “treehouse” on the edge of it with all the ammenities of their house, sometimes including a TV, and wait for a buck to walk in. What ever happened to scouting and taking the animal on his own turf by outwitting him. On all those shows it seems all they care about is somehow luring a “shooter buck” in range. What is a shooter buck, anyway? I killed a six pointer last year right after a huge eight ran by too fast for a shot. To me any deer that you want to take is a “shooter” (I hate that term, and am sick of hearing it!). It’s how you take it that counts. Sorry, I’ll get off my high horse now. And again, welcome, both to the forum and to the most honorable way of hunting you’ll ever experience.
