in reply to: Shorter Drawlength #18163
Well I’m a newbe so not much help here; I’m sure there is a way and If I was to guess the way to go about it would be to make a shorter bow with slightly wider limbs and possibly back it with sinue or something. Also these guys are great help but try tradgang.com its a little faster with the responce:lol:
Danny Klee wrote: A friend of mine who interested in building a self bow is curious. Can you build a self bow at a draw length of 24″ but still have a bow of 55-60# of draw weight? Also does anyone here know where he can go to learn how to do this? He lives in South Central Michigan and is willing to travel to learn this craft. Thanks everyone.

in reply to: Layers Everywhere #10734I would really like to aquire the bibles and dvd’s but don’t have anything of the sort now. I want to put some r/d in the limbs but not big on the recurves yet. I was thinking about using some glass through resin and cloth but have never ordered any glass pieces.
Thanks for all the help!!! 😆
in reply to: help new bowyer #53893Hey bud,
As a new bowyer myself, I had the frustrations of getting started recently. I’ve learned the process that takes the least “special” equipment is a board bow. This simply means you start with a stock Boar rather than a stave or multi layers of laminations. A board bow can still be an good hunting weapon although will not be expected to shoot quite as fast as a laminate bow. You can find a build along to a “piramid board bow” on tradgang.com there is a high school wood shop teacher that actually uses this as a project. Anyways I’m babling but I learned alot and had a great hunting season with mine.TJW

in reply to: New Bow…but not THE bow… #48967Nice Job Man, Looks sharp!
in reply to: New Bow…but not THE bow… #40974Hey Duncan, I’m extremely new to this, would you mind explaining a little about the process of backing a wood bow with fabric. And also out of curiousity, what material is better?
😆I think stick bow or the company has changed hands, I have looked into this company some. They still have a website http://www.stickbow.com however only sell a few things as the new owners (or at least what I hear) are trying to re-configure the company. 😮
in reply to: recurve/mechanical release #34271I do not see why it would not work other than possibly changing the stress area of three fingers and concentrating it to one release. For whatever reason I did see a recurve break in the hands of a man at full draw with a release, but then again it could have just been that bow’s time.
in reply to: Some Assembly Required #34269That looks really awesome! And I will probably come crossed as ignorant to this and it is probably because I am. However, I was really curious is the core left the full length and has the riser attached. Or does the core split on both top and bottom of the riser to wrap around it in some way.
🙄 I’m trying to start building my own bows and can only hope to progress to this level, and this has been my largest misunderstanding.in reply to: Curly Hickory Longbow #33253Great pics and even better info!!! Thanks alot, and this will sure help in my projects to come!
