The feather fleching is straight, there is no curve to them, they are the “fake ones”… so would it make a difference with single bevel ‘heads??? and what way do they spin now??? if at all???

I,ve always went with straight fletching, dont now why but there it is hehehe… They fly great//

      Thanks

Coolio!!! I have some killer recipes for game. It was just kinda a joke about recipes/flyfishing, this site is great because of it’s ONLY being about traditional bow topics(witness “other” sites where just about anything goes, and it’s a kerfuddle)…

Thanks again Mom (and remember, I’m the good son hehehe)…

None that I have tried worked for me shooting, but the ones used by race car pit crews fit tight and have great grip.

I have tried every glove made, not archery gloves but ones to help keep my hands warm, feel is such an important dealy for me to shoot good, and even a thin glove on my bow hand throws me off. I’ll use those little hand warmers in my sleaves so I can stick my fingers in there to keep warm… I buy them by the case hehehe… Yes, it does get coooold here in Az.

Never been married, no kids… I spend around 175-200days a year hunting/scouting, about 60days of that with my recurve in hand.

I will hunt multi stands mixed with still hunting in NY, only getting two weeks there this year, last week of bow, first of r&*^e, bummer, but I’m helping an outfitter with some Wounded Warrior hunts in AZ so it’s all good.

I’ll be hunting the entire month of January2014 for Coues for myself, and WW also.

My ‘success” anymore is not based on a critter on the ground, but the total joy of the hunt, with it’s ups and downs, weight loss, lack of sleep, and sore body. Did I say this before??? Man I LOVE this time of year…

Mike- Rabbits with split pieces of oak from the woodpile, we would whittle them down to rounder edges and walk the field edges trying to find them sunning themselves right after milking time… Ahhh the joys of boyhood, Yaknow my friends would give me the “He has finaly lost it, wackadoo look ” if I left the bow in the truck and tried this today…. Hehehe might just take a morning off bowhunting and do it…

[quote=”colmike IMHO if you are not getting within the sensory range of your prey and ensuring the shot is going to make a clean ethical kill then your not hunting–your sniping and murdering. No offense just my opinion.8)

                    With trad gear I 100% agree…

I can feel your pain PTaylor, poachers are in every state and all you can do is report it to your game wardens and hope for the best.

Where I hunt in NY there’s A LOT of “road hunters”, and I report them every year, local PD runs them off, but they just return.

Here in AZ it’s more of the guys hunting in the closed areas of where I hunt, 1/4mile from the road is closed to hunting, but I find blinds/stands set-up not far from the road, one call with GPS numbers to G&F and they take care of it. Although I have had them stop me, I like having them around…

Wolves are a smokey subject in the west AusJim, they are protected here in Arizona, Mexican Gray wolf…

I think I heard of a far north, Canada or Alaska, hunter taking a wolf with a tradbow.

(I won’t give my opinion, already got one slap-down from Mom this week hehehe)

There is an area on our lease in NY that is a nasty, wet, deep, thick swamp, part of which was on our farm. I don’t remember how old I was, maybe early teens. I would just climb a tree, no stand, I do remember the bow, a Ben person long bow that drew like a crowbar with a string attached.

I was standing on alimb from a white oak and a little spike was eating leaves from the brush, and I made a bad shot, 1/4 toward me, almost straight down. The poor deer ran off toward the fields, and I jumped down right away and was in chase mode when the deer turned around in the middle of the field and full-bore ran right for the nasty swamp.

I drew back with the arrow pointing up like a mortor tube and let it fly, You know when you shoot a basketball and you just know it’s a swish before the ball is halfway to the hoop??? That was what I felt, and the arrow drilled into the neck hitting the spine, sending the deer into a pile.

So much wrong with the entire deal, dumb first shot selection, trying to run the deer down, sending another arrow at a running deer in some way thinking I could keep it out of the swamp…

When I walk through that area today I can still “see’ that episode and it was a turning point in my life as a hunter. I haven’t taken a shot since then on deer that I wasn’t 100% sure of it being a ‘killing’ shot ie- 1/4 away, best angle, etc…

Shot number two was more then 100yards, less then 150yards..

The land can ONLY be used for building a lake for local water use, after they bought the land(1972?)the price of $5million was deemed to high, est. Cost now is over $300million… So this slice of Heaven is going to be around for a long time…
