My Father was the Fire Chief at West Point MA, New York and he had access to keys that un-locked gates, that led down dirt trails to amazing little lakes/big ponds filled with big bass and blue-gills, those same keys un-locked the small row boats neatly lined-up along the shore.

As a little kid, I always thought of that key board at the main-gate guard house as magic, we never realy knew which waters we were able to fish as some areas would be closed due to training, but as long as we were out there, all was good…

Seeing a herd of 40plus deer run off a hill side ahead of group of soldiers on training exercises while fishing one of the West Point lakes was not the first time I had seen Deer, but it is one that has stuck with me as the first time I really was biten by the hunting bug…

Love to see your adventures Alex, I know the area you hunt, some great bucks running those ridges and a sense of History walking that ground.

I’m missing our land in Pine Bush/Montgomery area, we have a 800ac. piece of heaven in Orange Co, NY. loaded with deer, rabbits, turkey, ducks etc…

Also missing the cabin north of Gloversville, NY. many memories of hunting the Adirondacks…

(I dont think I will be making it back to NY this year to Hunt)

So Alex and AdirondacMan keep the photos coming…

I have, knock on wood, never lost a deer to a poor shot, 75-100deer with a recurve, over 200 deer with the rifle.

If I am shooting, the critter is dying, it may sound kinda strange to some people, but I want to kill the critter, not hurt him.

The main reason why I havent “lost” any Deer, I believe, is that I only take shots that will get my arrow into the lung/heart area.

Distance is a factor, but also angle and animals level of awareness.

When setting-up tree stands/brush blinds, distance and angle of possible shots are my main focus.

Do I pass on many close-up shots because “things” just arent right to me??? Yes I do…

Consider getting/using a shamagg, I never leave the FJ without at least one, in any weather…

in reply to: P&Y changes mind #24641

P&Y B&C etc did do good work, at one time… Now alot of people only care ” What does it score???” and will do whatever they can to get that pat on the back(and $$$ for killing a big buck) Note all the “famous” staff-shooters that have been found to have lied about the animals they have killed,ie: high-fence claimed as free-range, road-kill and sheds mounted and scored for the “Book”…

Embrace the Hunt, not how many inches it may be, the Hunt is the true trophy…

While I do use some tech, trail cams, GPS while hunting, I pull cams a few weeks before the season starts and I never set the correct time-stamp, I want it to be a HUNT, and GPS is more of a safety factor (>>>I’m wadded-up here<<<)…

Drones are being used by some “hunters” and outfitters in AZ already…

I did enter a Coues into P&Y due to peer-pressure, but I really could care less about being in a ‘Book”. Note: just about any 8point(eastern count) Coues will make P&Y…

I try to do a couple of WW hunts each year and encourage others to do the same…

Saddly no morels or ginsing here in Arizona…

In NY I would mix arrowhead hunting with morel/ginsing hunting in the spring, I miss doing that…

Good on You for making the effort to be self-relient in case of emergency…

I am planning a week long trip this summer into the MT’s with very minimal gear, my own edition of “Santa Rita Survivalman”.

Small knife, metal cup, basic first-aid kit (side-arm for protection, cell-phone for emergency only, camera to document the adventure)…

The main problem is snares/deadfalls are NOT allowed on National forests, and I dont want to take a chance on being ticketed and losing any hunting rights. So I may be taking a sling-shot along…

(My GF asked if my life-insurance was all paid up and if she was the beni… hehehe)

In my few years hunting down there I never once saw a coatamundi, darn.

These are recent photo’s from a hunters camera…

The Jaguars have been caught on trail cams along most of the southern units, in the “Sky Islands”…

And guy’s arent sharing info on locations (and some have stopped putting the photos out there), mainly because of what happened to “Macho B”, but also the talk of shutting down the entire southern units to many land uses(hunting/hiking/etc…

Coatis are one of the neatest critters to watch, very vocal amoung themselves and they look like they were made by mixing a few animals together, anteater face, raccoon mask and tail markings, monkey tails, long cat-like legs…

My first call to wish a Happy Mothers Day is to a friend I’ve known for 25plus years, could’nt stand him for the first 5years, extreme type A personality, biting comments, etc. now he is one of my closest, truest friends…

I started calling to wish him happy mothers day about 20years ago, since he is the ‘biggest mother” I know hehehe, and it has taken off, his wife says the calls start early sunday morning and come thoughout the day, he even gets flowers delivered to his work hehehe…

The core tenents of “QDM”, the taking of bucks with larger antlers/better genetics, have been proven failures over the long haul. When the ‘cream-of-the-crop” is targeted, eventualy all thats left are the animals with the poor genetics…

Antler restrictions are kinda against the American model of hunting, hunting for all, My Hunt, My tag, My deer, my decision to take a spike…

(Personaly, I only shoot deer that are 8point or better(eastern count) these days, but I have killed over 300deer(approx 200 deer with rifle, 75-100 with a recurve) and can now wait and pick what I want to tag…)

Photo: New York Buddies pole barn wall, where we hang antlers that, for whatever reason, dont make it to our own home walls…
