I have been using the Lifeline Power Bands ( tubes) sold at Academy sports, to keep my bow arms and shoulders strong. Also use the Total Gym.
How do you keep in shape for shooting or hunting season?

I run, hike, and do assorted calisthenics and drills (read “army-style pt) throughout the year. I tend to go in cycles of consistency and intensity, but manage to stay in pretty decent shape. Better cardio than strenght though.

I run and cycle but it never is enough for some of the hills I climb. Do push-ups and benchpress, some curls.

I find I don’t have the self discipline to stay in shape without a little incentive so, I sign up to do triathlons (swim/bike/run), open water swims, and running races. This way, I have to stay in shape for the “next” event and it keeps me motivated. Then when hunting season gets close I just add some long treks in the hills to get ready for the backpack hunts. As an extreme example, next May I’m doing the Rim to Rim run in the Grand Canyon starting at the North rim, and running to the South rim. That training is starting now. After doing that, no hike to the top of a ridge to hunt will seem tough. 😯

I commend you all for your efforts on exercising. For me reading about all your routines has gotten me out of breath.:D

Tom, my thought exactly. Seems everytime I start dong anything to get in shape I end up with more pain than I had before. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not at first like you would think. It’s afew weeks later when my ol’ joints find out I’m doing something.
Get old really sucks!!!!

I got a sore shoulder trying to steer a toboggan with the kids on it. My chiropractor told me to exercise it. I bought a bowfit and it works really well. I try to get some push-ups in and do what the chart on the bowfit says. I’ll do while I watch the news in the morning and it’s done. The rest of my fitness is just walking the hills. Always was a better hiker than a runner and where I live the roads aren’t safe to bike.

One thing I love about the Lifeline system, is that if you drop it, it doesn’t hurt. The rubber core pieces come in all weights, so using them doesn’t cause as much pain as steel or iron weights. All you need is the device and a good door. Academy Sports sells them and you can get them on-line too.:)

Currently Im fighting pregnancy sympathy weight, and every pumpkin flavored desert known to man (and yes Dave, bryers icecream 😆 )But when I’m being good I run 1/2 marathons, marathons, and trail marathons. I also dabble in P90X. But thats when I’m being good.
