This fall I had to drop a very large Engelmann Spruce (100’tall, 3’diameter) and I was wondering, have any of you ever made arrows out of this kind of tree?

Mark — apparently none of us have (though you might try this in the bowmaking forum). But in any event, welcome aboard and it’s an entirely solid question you ask, despite our collective lack of experience with Englemann spruce. ttf

            thanks tree,
I hate to waste things and even went so far as to get permission from the forest service to use the wood as lumber products. I’ve heard of using Sitka spruce so i guess a little experimentation is in order.

              Mark,
Give it a try, nothing to lose but time and you will learn soemthing along the way.

My guess is they will make good shafts if the grain is fairly straight. I will guess the spine will be adequate and the weight will be on the light side.

              Have fun.
