Thanks for the reply,no special bowyer, just looking for a good hunting bow to toss a heavy arrow.

Is there a longbow design that you gravitate toward? D-shape, reflex/deflex? Old school grip? Recurve grip? All of these things will help in narrowing down a bowyer to recommend.

You nailed that one Hammer… no pun intended:D

I like the r/d design as far as the grip onlt ever had one recurve so I don’t know about the grip for sure. thanks for the effort in trying to help.

Cool, that definitely helps. There are still going to be a ton of options to choose from within that style of longbow, but that does narrow it down some. Two that I would recommend would be the Kanati by Jason Kendall, and the Robertson Quik Styk. I’m sure you’ll hear about many other great choices as well. Ultimately, you should just try them out. Many bowyers will let you do so.

The best thing would be to shoot a few or several longbows to get a feel for what you like and don’t like. The big shoots are the best way to get access to a large number of bows, but you may also be able to find a few LB shooters in your area that will let you try their stuff. When you get a feel for what you like, buying used is a great place to start. You can generally get all or most of your money back as you buy/sell/trade your way thru the journey of finding the right bow for you.
What draw weight are you looking for and are you close to central Illinois?

If you go with a custom bowyer, some may offer the option of tracing your hand to give you the most comfortable grip. Like Fletcher suggested try and test drive few bows at a nearby trad shoot or trad shop if you have one near by. I happen to like for R/D a couple of guys out of Oregon that are making beautiful bows that shoot great according to reviews are Bigfoot bows and eagelwing archery. I also recently tried hitman longbows out of Wisconsin an loved the smooth pull and no hand shock out of a 3 pc takedown longbow. The bow pulled 54lbs at my draw length and felt as easy to pull as my 48lbs bob lee one piece longbow.

I’ll get ther sooner or later!!I would welcome any help thanks

I’ve got the bow dialed in with 29″2018s they fly good. Alos have agold tip 5575at 29″that flies good ,both seem to fly well with a125 or 145gr feld point. Would like to add more to the front end but not sure how much more either shaft will take. Any help would be great! 66″ 54#at 28″ Thanks!!
-
A 2018 is around a 450-460 spine if I am not mistaken.
I am shooting a 62″ 52# @ 30.5 drawing to 32″ so it will be about 55-56#. I just backed up to a 340 spine with it and I am looking to go with a 125-145g. head with 50-100g inserts.
I think that you are about right on the mark with the 2018 and I can’t say with the 5575. Strip the fletching off of a couple and watch their flight. If they fly point left nock rght add more point weight.
