I recently came into a bit of denrii and am wondering which bow I should, well—you know. should I go top o the line and order a “Black Widow?” or should I order one in a lower price range? Diamond series, Bear, PSE, or perhaps a custom bow from a local maker. I shoot recurves exclusively (a horsebow is a recurve.) Opinions please.

Ah, life is just one problem after the next.
Burning a hole in your pocket, is it?
Are you planning on going to shoots and rendezvous this summer? Just think of all those bows out there, idly waiting to be tried! So go try them!:D
Nobody can tell you what will make you ecstatic for the rest of your life. Some things ya just have to do for yourself. If you just follow the popular buzz, you will be buying a new bow every three months. If you can afford that, well, more power to you, (and PM me before they hit the classifieds)! This is advice from an old lady with a wall full of bows.

Go to one of the shoots that have a variety of bow vendors present. Shoot the ones that appeal to you and go from there. Black Widow does have a tryout plan. I love my Widows, but that is me. I shot them all before I ordered one. By doing some testing you will find the one that you just can’t put down. GOOD LUCK!

Oh! How one would like to start traditional bowhunting with the perfect bow. Well, I’ve been trying for 45 years and it comes down to comfort when shooting, enough power to get the job done and enough cash in the pocket after all the trials and tribulations, to lead to that point. Although I think I am now close with a straight gripped, straight ended longbow and heavy wooden arrows, the proverbial “pot of gold” still seems out of reach at times. What a ride it has been and, I hope, continues to be. If I was to do it all over, I would pick a recurve built by one of the Masters (likely Bear), an old yew English selfbow, and a modern straight limbed and gripped longbow in a low hunting weight and then a high hunting weight and make my decision. You know something, I have tried them and am still not positive. My best regards to you and your journey.

I have a Blackwidow PMA II. It is a very tough and durable bow. They are not the most expencive bow by far. They are worth what you pay for. You get a good company that will back up their product. I do not know if the silvertip is a better bow. I have no experience with it. I would buy another BW if I needed to replace the one I have. I would not say this about the many bows that I have owned before this one.
