I live in MN where the Osage is not native to this area and very difficult to find to cut down. Where could I get a stave to try to make a bow from? Its a bummer that I will not be able to see the wood itself before I purchase it to verify that its a straight piece with no twist in it is a big concern of mine. Does anyone have any other suggestions for the bow minus using a different type of wood?

I’m sure some of the experienced osage bowyers will get here, but I’m in the same boat you are….we have none in my neck of the woods. I mostly work with hickory. If you google osage staves, several sellers come up, most of whom specialize in osage. I can’t attest to their quality, but they have alot on hand to choose from. Also, check ebay. I’ve been thinking about buying some from one of these guys just to get started with it.
I may have finally hit the jackpot over Christmas when we were at my wife’s family in the mtns. Good bit of osage up there, and I gained access to a property with lots of old osage hedgerows. A return trip is in order very soon. Woo!!:D

I was looking at ebay at a few different bids, but there is just something about buying woods on ebay that turns me off. I will have to look at the websites about to see what I can find or maybe find a deal with someone on this site 😉
