I have been shooting bows since I have been walking. Starting with all the hand me downs i could get my hands on. Started out with many warped limb recurves then to hand me down compounds. Have been lucky to have a father that always wanted some thing new or the next best thing leaving me with alot to choose from. Now I am wanting to get into traditional shooting. I have never had a long bow and have more or less decided that is the route i want to go. i was wondering where to start looking to get a good long bow and if there are places i could try out different bows before i bought one. Have been looking real hard at OMP longbows. If any one has sugesstions I would appreciate any and all comments. Thanks.

Depending on your price range, black widow will let you shoot before you buy, you call them and tell them what you are intrested in and they will send you a “model” bow, of course they require some type of payment, as collateral, but then if you like it they put the collateral toward your bow, or they give it back to you!? Also if you are looking for nothing in particular, any bowshop that sells bows will let you shoot a longbow just like you would go in and shoot a new compound, I would definatly shop around, because all of us are different, and one bow may work for me that would definatly not work for you or vise versa! hope that helps!

Most bowyers will let you try before you buy. Good luck.

You can get some good deals on used equipment. Keep your eyes open. For a new bow the Bear Montana was a good deal. I haven’t seen the price on it lately though.
If you find a used bow and have the time to ask around about the brand do that.
If you settle on a brand that you want, maybe you could post that you’re looking for one. I’ll bet you’d get responses.
Actually, with times tight like they are, the used bow market is very active…
Good Luck! todd
