Right now I’m shooting a new 52″ Samick 45# recurve offered by Greatree. A great little bow for the price.
Other bows in my posession:
Bear Alaskan 47# @ 28″
Bear Grizzly 50# @ 28″
Hoyt Hunt Master T/D 45# and 55# limb sets
JD Berry Yahweh 68# @ 28″
Various 68″ Hickory selfbows 55# to 68# @ 28″Duncan

Pulling a new PSE “Sequoia” r/d 68inch 50#@28″ longbow-good bow for the price-$250. It’s FF compatible so I replaced the 14 strand B-50 flemish with an 8 strand 4 color
D-97 with padded loops from SBD Bowstrings on O.L. Adcock’s advice. Great string from an ethical company- tho it looks like it’s strung with a multicolored piece of dental floss!
Still have the old Bear Whitetail 11 that I converted to shoot-off-the-shelf- use as my portable nautilus machine
Had a 68″ Ben Pearson “Ol Ben” longbow that was over 70# and way over-bowed for me so I recently gifted it to Dr. Ed Ashby as he was worried about losing his bow muscles during his illness- called him just as he was opening the box- he pulled 5x right side and the same left!
In the market for takedown longbow in the future- how do like that Pacific Yew rayborbon?- Jay St. Charles’ co. is just down the road from me.
Good hunting-Bert -
I am shooting a 55# Deer master take down curve by Greatree archery. Cheap just like the sequoia, I think it is 210 right now, but it was 199 when I got it. It shoots great with Beeman ICS bowhunter shafts, I am drawing somthing like 27.5-28″, I have never really measured it, but my shafts are 29.5″.
I own several other bows, my first bow was a bow by Galaxy Mars? Anyone ever hear of them, because I hadnt! It is 40#, and is the only bow to this day that has killed a deer with me! I also have a shakespeare X-21 “tioga” at 45#, it is great bow, I just wish it was higher in poundage. My last recurve is a Hunter recurve by Martin archery, in 70#, it is a beast. And I just bought a u-finish longbow from bowstick archery, it is okay, I prefer recurves over longbows, but I thought I would give them a try, and I still think I want to try a reflex-deflex longbow, that might be more my style.

Let’ see.. presently –
Northern Mist Reverse Handle Whisper Longbow 64″ 51@28
Howard Hill Halfbreed 66″ 52@28
Northern Mist Baraga 64″ 53@28Bear Bearcat Recurve 62″ 40@28
Martin Stick ML10 62″ 45@28
Pearson Locksley Hybrid Longbow 64″ 45@28Had Bear Grizzly and 2 other Pearson’s that I just gave away to those who needed them. Cause for me, it was just the right thing to do.
Top three are my GO TO bows in that order. I am debating between another Northern Mist or Howard Hill at this time.
Toss up between a HH Big 5 and a NM Superior. -

That is pretty interesting considering I was JUST looking at his updated site yesterday and saw that handle and I thought…wow, that’s weird looking! How do you like that handle?
-
Hi Patrick… the NM Whisper Longbow has been my go to hunting bow for many years. The all bamboo limbs are very smooth and quiet. But the Handle fits the folcrum of my hand perfectly and comfortably, it allows the the bow hand to grip the bow exactly the same way all the time.
I do see that Steve Turay has changed the Whisper bow a bit from the earlier model. Mine was the sister model to the Superior, only having a reverse handle. Mine has a touch of reflex to it, the same as the Superior, instead of the Classic, as the model is now described.

depends on the target, day and mood:D
but in descending order of purchase, a 60# Predator; a 65# Martin ML14 longbow; a Bear 65# kodiak; a 65# Hoyt takedown recurve; and a 50# Browning Wasp
(OK, I’ll admit I fell off the wagon for a short while, I got a 65# Jennings Split-T compound laying around somewhere)

A Quarf is a set of Quinn limbs on compound riser. Hunt Bear balck Bear risers, Spectra risers,TD-3 risers,Rambo risers, and some others which provide a 21 inch length od riser and geometry to make a good recurve. Proline Typhoon is another one. Warf is the basic name for what my friend Bob Gordon of Idaho started years ago by doing ILF conversions on these old compound risers. This enabled the use of Olympic limbs, and made a shorter than Olypic BOWS for hunting rig. Adjustability and no give in these alum/magnesium risers make good shooters from 62 to 66 inch lengths. Quarf’s are straight bolt down limbs with no tiller adjustment.

Bear Grizzly 58″ AMO, 55# @ 28″. I draw 29 1/2″, which puts me right at about 60# of weight.

Martin Dream Catcher, 60″, 62# @ 30″; it stacks some, but is fast and I’m accurate with it to a little past 20 yds.
