OK, OK,,,, now that I have you looking.:D

Something came to mind this morning after a few e-mail questions.

What is the proper spine for high FOC arrows.

Well,,,,, to tell the truth, I really don’t know.

I think everyone will agree no two shooters do it the same.

However, one thing I did find out is not all shafts are made alike.

In my latest batch of low GPI shafts I had three different spines. Some were .320, some were .330, and the rest were .340. Now all these were supposed to be the same.

What I did find out was that the shafts in the .320 range ended up longer than the ones in the .340 range.

The .320 shafts shot clean and straight at 31″

The .340 shafts shot clean and straight at 29.5″

I guess now your saying, “what has this got to do with anything, different spines will yeild different results”.

I think, what I’m trying to say here is, “never take anything as being written in stone”.

The reason I’m saying this is, normally everyones first question is “what spine did you use”. When I say “well I used this spine for my setup” the next thing they say is “then that means these such and such spine shafts I have on hand will do the number for me”.

Not so fast “buckwheat”. Unless you can do it the same way as me then it may be nothing more than a starting point, but until you do the proper testing for yourself you will only be guessing.

Sorry if all this makes no since to you. I think the last e-mail I read this morning is what set me in this state of mind.

I guess I just had to get it out in the open. All I can do is point someone in what I hope is the right direction.

Thanks for allowing me to lay on your couch and talk about it.

Speaking for Willis for a moment…….:D

You will also find 4 different spines on the same shaft, say what 😯 yes, north, south, east & west will have different spines, not all the time, but some times, so, some times you can turn the shaft and get a different spine, allowing you to match them up, just mark which side you want against the riser.

            Exactamoodo!!!!

In case someone feels I’m a bit scruff about my first statement, let me explain alittle more.

Received and e-mail wanting to know about increasing FOC.

I replied, I’ll be glad to help where I can.

Next question ask about the spine I use. This isn’t uncommon.

I replied, asking about their bow weight and draw length.

Next reply was ” don’t worry about that. All I want is arrows like you have”.

I replied, unless you have the same draw length, bow weight and release as me, chances of it being right for you is pretty slim”

Their reply, “well I don’t have time, nor a place to do all that work and just want to copy what you have”.

My reply,,,,, then I figure it best if you figure it out for yourself”.

            No replies since…..

Each of my PNG friends five big game arrows are different, but each is ‘tuned’ to shoot from his bow! Note the varied shaft lengths. They tune their non-traditional UEFOC arrows the same way we do, by altering the shaft length. Doesn’t matter that each of the shafts have a slightly different spine if you tune each one individually! 😀

Think I will cut and save this posting to send to the ones that think what works for me will work for them.

                            Thanks Ed.
