A chicky my wife used to row with in college has recently put together an excellent video demonstration of how to behave in a bear encounter. Every outdoorsman on your great continent should see it.

:D:lol: It’s one of the silliest things I have ever seen. I love that at some point several people must have looked at this and said “Oh yeah, that’s really good, we’ll put that on tv”.:lol::lol::lol:

Oh well, her wildly clueless attempt at public education is so funny Jay Leno has given her a call. I try to be funny and he’s never called me. Jerk.

              Jim

I walked upstairs yesterday after you posted and said to Linda when you go down you got to watch that one Aussie Jim posted on bear attacks–she looks at me and says well it’s all over face book and I’m watching it now–seems your wife’s friend is an instant celebrity–I’m thinking you can milk a trip here out of that–kinda the down under friends of our local TV idiot–think you would be a hit on Leno–wish we had TV to watch it:D

Leno hasn’t called me either, but then I really don’t TRY to be funny.

Back around the turn of the century (love saying that) I ran into a mama bear and cubs on the Long Trail. Before I even knew they were there, the cubs were climbing trees, and Mama was running as fast as she could. Cought a glimse of her going over the next ridge. NO, I didn’t growl at them, wave my arms, or act like I’m taller. Mama bear was probably a lot bigger than I am. I hunkered down and waited to see what happened, was she coming back. Pretty soon the cubs started coming down the trees, making scared noises. That is when I got out of there, Sorry, Mam I’m not raising your kids for you. Please don’t ask me what I think of Maternal instincts.
