And have your local critters been affected? Our 2nd 1/2 in Michigan has been more the real deal, but I believe overall the deer have wintered well. As long as April doesn’t get stupid cold and snowy even the UP herd should be OK. I think the rabbits are a little stressed as they’ve gnawed the softbarked trees and shrubs up around the yard quite nicely.

Here in middle eastern OH we didn’t even have a winter until the day after Christmas. Since then, it’s been pure hell only not hot but cold, wet and snow out the wazoo..
Supposed to start snowing again tomarrow with 6-10″ before finished.
Today it was 44 degrees. Tomarrows high low 30’s and getting colder.
The deer I’ve seen around here have made it fine. All look to be fat as pen raised hogs. Of course they should with all the farming that goes on around here. You can still walk along the field edges and see grain laying around.

At this point I’d call it “tenacious.” Just three weeks to turkey season and the forecast low for tonight is 7. While my daily walks are increasing in length and altitude as the snow slowly goes out, I haven’t been far enough yet for a good survey, but it seems the animals are OK. Mountain critters are tough or they die. A majority of winterkill for all hooved species and turkey is a combo of deep cold and deep snow in late-winter, Feb and March, when they’re already way down on body fat and energy reserves from prolonged slow winter starvation. One or the other they can handle, but both together is bad. I personally would welcome more snow, as it’s been a drought winter after a record drought summer. When we can no longer depend even on the seasons to be more or less seasonal …? I’ve been noting the increasing weather weirdness here in the southern Rockies since the mid-1990s. Prior to that it was like clockwork. Now the clock seems busted and all dried out.

Its been warm and extremely dry for us here in Florida. So dry most of the hogs have migrated onto others places that I dont have permission to hunt. Which stinks because I like to hunt a lot during jan feb and march because thats usually when its the coolest here. But the good news is were getting hammered by some good rains right now and the hogs should filter back in a few weeks.

Did you say “had” ???? We’re still having it !! Seems like March has been worse than February for snow. I have a bag target on a frame hanging about 6 inches off the ground in my back yard. Today I could see just the top inch or so of the bag !! Never really got a huge dump of snow at any one point, but in the last 2 weeks, we’ve only had 2 days that didn’t snow a couple inches at least. Hope spring gets here soon, at this rate I’ll need my snowshoes for turkey season !!

Amazingly, it’s been a winter similar to those I remember from my childhood here in NE Kansas. Not especially cold, like it was then, but snow so deep you can (in places) dig tunnels through it. My kids have never seen snow like this. They’ve enjoyed it.
As far as wildlife goes, the rabbits are down and the coyotes are up. The deer & turkeys have hardly noticed. But there have been some noticeably different behaviors in the bird migration.

Precip here has been close to normal – local ski resort down the road has a 104″ base right now.
However, other than a wicked cold snap back in January, temps have not been all that cold for us in general this winter, and spring is turning out to be fairly mild.
All in all, it seems like the factors may be aligning toward something we haven’t had in a while – plenty of water in the rivers this summer, and a mild enough spring to give game a good chance of survival. Keeping the fingers crossed…

Since the end of January we have a snowstorm at least once a week here in Northern Mi, we have about 2 feet of snow cover in the deep woods however where the sun is hitting there is much less, deer are on the move and they seem to be in good shape so as long as we do not get slammed with anymore storms I think they will do just fine!

last night was about 10 degrees and warming to the upper 30’s and is real nice outside. Like Smith said we had a 3 week cold snap but all in all it’s been good. We have good snow pack for summer and mushrooms ( 2012 fire season ). It is going to be sunny and warm the rest of the week high 50’s .I think spring is here

Our winter has been kind of mild as far as weather goes. We’ve got now in the high country, but in the valley it’s mostly gone. We’ve had a lot of wind (which I could do without) the animals I’m seeing have come through the winter pretty well. 🙂
The Gophers are out in numbers now so it’s time to hunt them.8)

Not a winter as far as I’ve seen, AND I WENT TO IDAHO IN FEBRUARY!!
GA has had a ridiculously warm winter and a cold start to spring.
We only got one snow in N GA and it wasn’t much to speak of. There was zero snow in Idaho when I went there too.
Luckily though, our oaks haven’t budded out early so we will have a normal acorn drop next year, so bears will still have to be climbing trees for the first few weeks of the opener. I’m really excited about that!
