Who’s going where to hunt? Near or far? I will hunt around home in October – State land here in SW Michigan. After that, I may well head E to western New England and hunt the bow season rut while visiting my aging parents 1st week of November or so. I have been in love with that land my whole life. Why stop now. The pic is my hometown hunting grounds. So who’s going to hunt where?

I have permission to hunt 3 (contiguous)farms, and have done extensive scouting on 2 Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). I intend to hunt all 3. They all have deer, and bear (Bear season started Sept 8). Not really HUNTING bear, just keeping a broad head in the bow in case I see one. Have seen both deer and bear, but they disappear when the season opens. The upland bird season starts 2 days before the deer season, so I expect the bird gunners will drive the deer out of the fields (where they stock the pheasants) and into the deep woods. As of yesterday the deer and bear are still eating the cow corn in the big field on the farm. Been out every weekend ,and have seen no rubs or scrapes, should start soon with rubs, scrapes next month when the season opens.

I’ll hunt my place, which is usually good for a couple of deer, some public land nearby which can be alright if you get a terrain feature or two off the road, a private parcel or so close by, and get down the cabin bordering the Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area as much as I possibly can.

Will be hunting locally, probably between noon and noon on most days. Found a couple of nice trails and look forward to standing still for a change. Dwc

Hunting locally in NY’s Hudson Valley, both on my old stomping grounds of Garrison, and near my new home in Beacon. My usual goal, rarely fulfilled, is to fill my freezer with a doe or young buck first, by any means necessary, tree stand, ground ambush, ground blind, leafy suit, etc… then spend the rest of the season honing my spot and stalk skills with no camo, whatever the outcome! 😕
