This pack of wee little muleys was hanging out in a friend’s “back yard” last week, over on the Front Range near Denver. This is what keeps me haunting timberline at my age this time of year. You can pick ’em off like flies with a rifle. Happily, DOW recognizes this and extremely limits early high country rifle tags. I think they should eliminate them altogether — the rifle tags, not the big bucks! In November they will break up and move lower for rut, then on down to their wintering grounds on private land and the Ute Indian reservation. This, for me, would be a trophy of a lifetime and plumb fills my bucket list. Thought I’d share, dave

Dave —
Great Picture! Fuels the Passion !
I also would really like to Kill/Take/ Render unto my Possession, a Really Nice Mule Deer Buck with the Traditional Bow. One of the Greater Hunting Challenges of the bow IMHO. I will be in ardent pursuit again this year!
Thanks for the motivation.

Them are some monsters! Don’t see to many of them like that up here.
But if they be the “wee” ones, what do your trophy deer look like? 😉 -
Bruce — I didn’t take the pic. A friend who lives near Denver took it from his back deck. I also cropped it a bit for posting here, which has the effect of making it appear closer. The original looks to be about a hundred yards, assuming he used 35mm.
