Okay, it’s a bit off archery, but there’s an archer in the photo and this guy is definitely someone I’d talk about by the campfire.

I never heard of him before, but he’d make a heck of a movie. I found his obit in the NY Times a couple of days ago. Interesting read.

        Thanks, david

He certainly was a character eh?

I don’t think I read any reference in the article to that impressive longbowman trophy though… any idea what it is? I’d like to know more about it.

Maybe someone will chime in on that trophy. It’s neat. Love to have one in my garden, me thinks.

My wife even commented today on this man’s life, and she is not one to get excited in anything involving guns and such.

                Yes, quite a life.

An odd twist, is that my first recurve bow was purchased at Dakin’s Sporting Goods in Bangor, Maine!

That was a great read, David. Thanks for sharing.

I was happy to stumble upon it. If Tom Hanks isn’t working on a movie about this guy….

Good stuff! I actually met him when I was 12 years old. He was in the hospital bed next to me (semi-private room) when I was having my tonsils out. He was in for hernia. He told many of great stories in those 2 days. I was in awe.

Wow. That’s an amazing time for a twelve year old. I wouldn’t have wanted to leave the hospital.
