I’ve been trying to copy some vintage Bear Archery arrows and wanted some opinions on the first couple examples I made. What do you think, am I there or do I need to go back to the drawing board.

That second arrow looks good, it FEELS like the ’60s. (And I hear that I grew up in them.) The fluorescent green on the number one arrow looks too contemporary. Or is that a color cast in the picture?
For a COPY, as opposed to going with the feeling, dyed wild turkey feathers will seal the deal. So far, I have been too lazy to do that.:oops:That being said, I would be proud to go afield with a quiver of either of them. You have excellent skills as a fletcher.
Killdeer -
Yeah Killdeer nailed it. Now you need some of the dark green razor heads.

Thanks everyone for the comments they are appreciated!!! The first arrow is a yellow dip, but I’ll agree the picture does make it look somewhat a fluorescent green or lime. It is gloss paint and the flash does changes some of the colors. The cresting on that arrow is green and brown, but the brown appears to be charcoal or grayish in the pictures.

Probably a really dumb question, but by Bear arrows did you mean Bear built custom arrows, or did they produce arrows of that quality as a regular product?

I was talking about arrows made by Bear Archery back in the 40s, 50s and 60s. Not sure you would call them custom, they were a production set of arrows that came in a dozen with 6 having field points and 6 having Bear Razorheads on them.

Man I wish Bear Archery still offered them in their lineup. If they looked even half as good as the arrows you fletched, with Razorheads included, they must have been one heck of a deal. Maybe one day they will bring them back.

In the late 60s early 70s a dozen went for $20-$25 and they did look good, really good. Of course $25 dollars then is closer to $250 now. I remember getting my first dozen at a Western Auto store as there weren’t any archery shops or sporting goods stores then, but most hardware stores sold hunting a fishing supplies. Ahhhhh the good ole days.

Nice job bountyhunter; makes me think back to the day when my Dad came home with a box of bear arrows, kind of a light mud color with red/gold cresting and red and yellow feathers with the old green bear razorheads. Still have a few of those around.
thanks for the memory jog
