Veritas arrow jig

I recently purchased a Veritas arrow/doweling jig so that I can run my own shafts,but I am having problems getting the shafts to maintain consistant diameter as I run them through. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello SB, and welcome to tradbow.com. While someone may yet show up with info for you, it appears from here that nobody is familiar with the Veritas. Always a good place to start is tracking down the manufacturer, which generally isn’t hard, and telling them the problem. Best luck, Dave

Thanks Dave,

For the input,however, I was able to figure out the problem myself tonight while running shafts. It seems that the blanks were not straight when I ran them through the jig causing a wobble which made the jig take off more wood towards the front of the shaft.The good news is this is not so bad because it just created a slightly tapered shaft. As long as I can straighten them I have an added bonus. By the way, the Veritas “arrow maker” is offered by Lee Valley Tools out of Canada.

Hi Sherman,

I have the Veritas dowel maker. Sounds like you found the problem. It works quite well once you get familiar with the setup and details.

If you try hickory make sure you have a powerfull drill, I burned up one of mine. The dowel jig worked fine but the drill was underpowered and it cooked.

Have fun, I have with mine. Now when you walk through the woods you will be looking for arrow wood, bow wood and if like me firewood.
