I recently purchased a recurve bow at an estate sale. I have not heard of the company (Wing International) or the dealer (Arrow Point Archery in Hazelton MO). I am planning to use it in archery classes that I teach for youth. The limbs have a slight twist and I would like to straighten them. Any suggestions? The bow is light weight 20# @ 28 in. and the limbs are wood sandwiched between fiberglass. Otherwise a beautiful riser will receive a new set of limbs for Christmas.

Mountaineer– Welcome to tradbow. Wing was a well-respected commercial bowmaker BC (before compounds). How badly are the limbs twisted? Have you tried to shoot it? Many bows with twisted limbs shoot just fine. At that low draw weight, and given the purpose you intend, it might be just fine as-is. Few kids young enough to pull only 20# will shoot well enough to notice any difference (and most will need a shorter bow, assuming this is a full-length bow). Sorry that’s all the help I can offer. Welcome here. Dave

I may be mistaken, there may be an article in TBM regarding taking the twist out of a bow. Check the 2012 issues. The author corrected a twist in a fibergalss bow, he may also have suggestions for your Wing bow.
A bowyer I met once said that he supports the riser and attaches a string to the twisted limb (opposite side as the twist). Then places a low weight (ounces) on the string. Over time, he claimed, the limb would be corrected. I didn’t feel any tug on my leg 😆 so I think he was serious.

Wing was Bob Lee’s first company if I am not mistaken. Run the limb under hot water for a little then twist the opposite way the limb is twisted. That is how I fixed a free bear bow I recieved. Worked well for me! Hope it does for you…good luck!

Jason Wesbrock’s article about fixing twisted limbs is in our Download Library. All members have access to this. Here is a link: Fixing Twisted Recurve Limbs
(I’m also moving this to the Bows and Equipment forum.)

I once straightened a wing recurve the way barebow mentioned . Leather padded two 2×4’s
. Boards were the length of the riser . I put the bow between the boards in a vice . Using the bow’s own string , I pulled the limb in oposite direction and tied it off. Left it that way for a month . I took most of the twist out . It was realy twisted bad before I did this . Too severe to shoot for sure ! In the end it was a pretty good shooter .
