Twist in my log

I just split my hickory log up and its got a pretty good twist in the grain. Is it junk?? I can still get the bow shape if I wanted to but the grain would twist through the bow and I can think of quite a few problems that this would cause, but this is the fist time i’ve split my own log and I was just wondering. Thanks

If it is more than very slightly twisted I’d basically consider it firewood. The other possibility would be to make a board out of it and then back it with something…….the twist should not be too much trouble on the belly.

Yeah the twist is about 90 degrees over about and eight foot span. I would call that a pretty bad twist. haha I was thinking about using it for laminating strips but I don’t now I’m pretty bummed out about it. Thanks for the help

Could be worse……could be an osage or yew log perfectly pipe straight with no knots…..but twisted the same:twisted:. Keep looking for decent wood I had a lot of trouble finding birch(one of the only decent bow woods in my area) without spiral grain. I finally did, but I made a bit of firewood first.
