        Hi guys

        So I’m tuning my new Allegheny Mt 54″ longbow. 60#@27″ w new SBD 8 strand string I just got from Pierre. Performance already worlds better… My nock point seems good, put on brass crimp w little rubber (I guess) pad that is part of it. After little adjustment my arrows are sticking straight into my target. I’m shooting GrizStik Alaskans that are already cut ( from one of my other bows) at 29.5″. Both fletched and bare shafts are consistently hitting right of center. My brace height is 7″ which is where my bowyer Jeff Strauss says to start from….

        Should I start w bare shafts full length (I do have them)?

        Should I try Beman MFX ( have them too ) but I would like to shoot these Alaskans from this particular bow.

        What about playing with brace height?

        Also, I hunt w Ashby broadheads and don’t want to change (love them!) so I do use 315gr field points….

        Not sure what I should do first…:shock:

        Any thoughts greatly appreciated…. 😕

          From what I’m reading the only questions I can come up with is how much to the right are the shafts impacting and what does the flight of the shafts look like.

          Sticking straight into the target means your close. Impact spot and flight of the bareshaft can say how close you are to perfect tune.

            They stick generally fairly straight in. ( I’ve only shot out to about 12-15 yards so far. ) When I do my part and release correctly that is 😳

            If they not straight in the are to the right, slightly nock left…..I always forget if that matters….:P

              John,

              Sounds like your pretty darn close.

              Keep bareshafting and backing up. If the flight is straight after passing 20 then I’d say your really close to correct tune.

              Tail left in the target is hard to call. The shaft is going to follow the path of least resistance. That’s why when I get to where you are I start watching the flight of the shaft. I want to see clean straight flight.

              Things can change the futher you get from the target, so make sure to take plenty of shots before doing anything to the shaft.
