Is it just me or has deer fever hit anyone else in the past couple of weeks? I cannot stop thinking about hunting this season. I have been shooting everyday, been watching videos everyday, I have been looking at aerial photos of the hunting land everyday, I can’t get enough of it! This is the time that the traditional bow stores love me 😆 September 13th cannot come soon enough!!! 45 days and counting!!!
I just moved so I plan on getting my camo ready, arrows ready, broadheads ready and I also want to get out in the woods this weekend for some scouting as well as setting up some ground blinds!
MAN I GOT THE FEVER!! I don’t think a cowbell will cure it this time 😉

Same thing here but I have to wait until Oct 1st.
Been scouting like crazy…a hard thing to so in 5 foot tall ferns when I’m only 5’6″!
Got stands prepped, packs organized, arrows made, heads sharp, tethers for the kids stands made, cameras have been in rotation for over a month, bought and modified a new jet sled for deer dragging, and been shooting a lot.
I’m very excited for the season to start. Monday was a high of 57 here, felt like fall. I was up with the sun, scouted 8 new spots and walked back in the house at 9:45 pm wet, tired, sore and happy as a kid at Christmas. I came in changes my clothes and sat on the couch. My wife looked at my tired, but big smile and said “the fact that you look like you do and are smiling about it is proof that you have an addiction and need help”. I said ” your right. Can you make me a sandwich? I can’t move my legs!”

I got lots of work to do still out in the woods. I typically hunt on public land all the way up until gun season starts then would call it quiets due to the gun slingers shooting at anything that makes a sound in the woods. Last year I was able to get permission to hunt on some private land which I am very excited about, just need to spend some hours scouting the land! Once gun season begins I will be able to hunt that land which is great since, gun season starts right when the rut is in full swing here in Minnesota. I plan on getting my butt out of bed early on Sunday to scout for a new location on the public land and setting up a couple ground blinds! So much fun! I enjoy the preseason prep just as much as I do spending time in the woods!

Getting ready. Shot a couple of woodies with grizzlys on them this morning. 30 yd.s dead on. That’s my test distance for all my arrows. They work to there they’ll work any distance less.:)
I’m going to the ranch tomorrow to snoop, maybe find a pig or coyote. We have more acreage this year and there’s a spot I’ve been wanting to set up on for years and couldn’t because it was out of bounds. Not now!!!!
I’ll be seeing about a hidey hole in that draw. 🙂

I hunt northern Michigan and deal with the same stuff. When the guns go off the woods turns into a pumpkin patch of orange and you have better luck parking at a jimmy buffet concert than you do on any logging road or two track.
One very useful tool I use during the gun season is to hunt behind the scenes. Most hunters won’t venture farther than 100 yards into the woods an hunt over bait piles. I use Google earth to find those funnels that are deep and thick far away from everyone. I arrive to my tree 2 hours before light, take a little knap waiting for first light, hunt all day, eat lunch on stand and don’t leave until after dark. No hunters know I’m there and they push deer to me from every direction all day long. Using the pressure as a tool.
I hate the gun season but sure do see some dandy deer that I don’t see any other time of the year. Like yours our gun season gets the rut as well.

Something about that sounds real appealing…

Good luck, Ralph!
As of today, it’s officially less than a month till archery season opens here. I’ve got a lot going on in the coming month, but it’s going to be hard to focus on anything else…:D

Got it bad. Sep 13 deer opener here. But going hog hunting next week!

41 days! 41 days! 41 days! 41 days!

Jason!! Think you got a problem. Try 6′ grass when you are only 5′ tall!!
Fever is high. Been scouting from the canoe, and hiking the ridges. Haven’t seen any deer, just a few tracks. Anyone know how to tell if we are going to have a good acorn crop? Nothing on the ground here, and can’t see anything in the trees.
Trying to figure out which arrows to put the broad heads on. Audrey is telling me to make another bow. She says its just in case something happens to the one I have, I think she wants me to stop checking everything over and over again. Somehow I don’t think she gets too excited to find archery stuff spread out all over the bed…

I’m very new to archery. I haven’t been practicing nearly enough to be confident in the field since returning to work and buying a home last April.
That needs to change. I need to get some broadheads and make sure my arrows are good to go.
My practice bow is a 30# Sage but my hunting bow is a 50# Sammick Phantom.
I don’t want to get too involved in scouting and I don’t want a tree blind. I just want to roam with some low power binoculars and see what I can see. Shoot what I can shoot.

Thanks Mike. Oorah.

I am starting to get a wrinkle in my shorts now that August is on the wind down. There are the subtle signs of the change in seasons to come already. I’ve been picking up the downy turkey feathers they lose when dusting lately. I stick one or two on my bow and they really pick up a subtle breeze….
