Found this old video of shooting kyudo archery. If you like it, think about reading Zen and the art of Archery. It cracks the door on what you can do with a bow and arrow…

Nice video, Steve. I enjoyed watching it. In its indirect way, it has plenty to do with our traditional archery for hunters. thanks, dwc

Thanks for sharing that, Steve. That video also led me to this one that looks interesting:
As an aside, the Yumi is a fascinating bow design. Have you ever shot one?

Steve
Great video and lot’s of good links on the sidebar.
When wojo14 was here shooting on Sun. I noticed right off that he didn’t retrieve my arrows with appropriate respect 😆 oh well he is young with proper training I’ll get him in the Zen spirit.

Same thing happened to me, so I checked the video out more, and decided to buy it. Awaiting delivery now 😀
And yes, I have shot a Yumi bow. When instructed how to use it, I was told that after looking at the target once, I was to look away and just focus on the shot. Amazingly, after a short time I could not only hit the target, but get close to the bull at 20 yds without looking at it. Just look straight ahead, focus on the target in your mind, and shoot. Crazy stuff. So I was surprised, that the real Yumi archers look at the target when shooting.

I think I just found my new motto for both practice and hunting, in the text under that second video:
“When we face the target we are facing ourselves as a mirror.”
Dunno ’bout you folks, but this statement brings it all together for me when I contemplate getting ready for the shot, beginning with the making of arrows and all the way through to releasing one at a live animal.

I like that one too!
