As mentioned in another thread, I’ve let myself get into a filming project with an independent documentary film maker from Belgium who’s work I really admire. This is not a video but a real “movie” documentary through which we hope to promote trad bowhunting, ethics, conservation and all the rest that’s involved in the good hunt most trad folk enjoy but the techies miss out on. It’s sort of the culmination of my writing and speaking career on these same topics. If anyone is interested in learning more and getting involved, here’s a short video below (starts right up so have your sound on), made two days ago, and a link that takes you to the website for more details. Not soliciting, but simply spreading the word since many have expressed interest. Meanwhile, after a weeklong silence we had 5 bulls bugling this morning. It’s still doable. 😀 Cheers, Dave PS. Sorry for the other youtube links that come up after the video … it doesn’t see possible to get rid of them.

Simply fantastic. Words can’t express how I felt listening /reading the piece Dave. I’m in at whatever amount I’ll be able to squeeze out by the 4th. Whatever it is I just wish it was more….
Cheers my friend to you and your partner…a noble undertaking I’d be privileged to be even a small part of 😀

Thanks, John. Let me be clear I am not asking anyone to contribute, but simply spreading the word on the project for those who are interested. The producer/director is the guy who has to raise the funds and I’m trying to help, which I admit is very uncomfy for this old man. But if you want to make a real movie these days, independent of any commercial investment and influence — so you can say what you want to say rather than what your sponsors want to say — this is the only alternative. You should know that Christoph has already invested some $30k, every penny he has. I figured if he believes in the project and me sufficiently to do that, least I cn do is help him raise some post-production money so he can hire the best film and sound editors, a quality original soundtrack, etc. Nobody will make a penny from this. If he’s lucky he’ll break even. It all goes into filming and post-production. Now, if I can only get an animal down! It’s not necessary to make our points — this film will be distributed all over Europe as well as the U.S. and aimed primarily at nonhunters — but you know the emotions after a kill and that’s something we would really like to share. I’m working on it. 😀 Dave

Let us know how we can help,Dave…Seems like a really worthwhile project for all of us to invest in and look forward to. Wayne8)

Hey Dave (and all you guys)…
I certainly appreciate your point above and I don’t take it as any type of solicitation or even fund raising by one of our favorite “old guys…” 😀
I look at it as an extension of who and what we all are here on this forum. No such film exists, that I’ve seen at least, that shows US, as we truly are, the best side of us, unadulterated by any commercial interest – well meaning as it generally is (I speak specifically of our favorite mag and it’s advertisers who, though they are in business and need to reach us as their primary consumers/customers, ply their business practices completely above board and with a keen caring eye to our environ, the critters in it, and care for each).
I think this project for you Dave, and others like Dr. Don T, Dr. Ed etc who have made a career for themselves (whether primary or not) in our Trad world, AS WELL AS the rest of us loyal readers/supporters of you, is a natural “next step”. IMHO, we NEED to be behind a project like this, to tell the story, the real story of our love for our natural world and the critters God put there for us to chase, nourish our families with and enjoy.
I’ve been touched today by the very idea of what you and your partner are doing. It’s not something I’ve heard of, or frankly thought about in these terms, before today. Of course not all of us can financially support this (or much of anything in this economy!)and should not be made to feel otherwise, but I think we all should get behind the project and tell whoever will listen so that we can truly get the word out.
I’m proud to support this project and wish you the best of luck Dave, not only for the hunt itself but for the entire film. Can’t wait to see it and feel free to PM/post with anything I can do to support it.
Be well and God Bless,

Hats off to you Dave! I’m still fairly new to this traditional way but I’ve fell in love with it and feel that more would if they could just see it first hand. I dont even watch the so called “outdoor” channel anymore, but i’d love to see Traditional Bowhunter Mag or similar have a show and reveal the true qualities of bowhunting with trad equipment and to display real outdoorsmanship with not just hunts but how-to episodes and with someone such as yourself as host, not that you’d want it. Guess in this commercially driven hunting industry and mainstream media that would be a long shot, but films like these are a good start. Thanks again!

Here’s hoping you can harvest one of those elusive elk Dave, just to put the icing on the cake! Glad to hear that European distribution will be included as there is some major education needed over this side of the pond. Can’t say I’ll be much support to you but I’ll definitely purchase the dvd once available – sounds like a perfect nights viewing 8)

I look forward to seeing the finished article it will be my first bowhunting / conservation / natural history DVD.
Well done Dave and Christoph.
Mark.

Right on Dave, I certainly hope that this man can capture the essence of the way you hunt as you did in, “A Man Made of Elk.”
It will be a challenge and many many hours of filming will be reduced to the potentially glorious final product.
May the gods of the hunt be with you… todd
