Buck fever has set in with me very early this year, and I feel so helpless…I know that the only cure is to wait until hunting season and it will eventually work its way out, and it typically ends with the lost of life and I have excepted this. I have been spending my extra time practicing and scouting and will continue to do so for the next 6 weeks. It really is the only thing that I can do to get by at this point to not be forced to be bed ridden until the opening day. I have found myself helplessly staring out into open fields and daydreaming of the day that I will be able to get into the woods again. I have had sleepless nights tossing and turning thinking to myself “WHY HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ME? ITS ONLY AUGUST!” When I do close my eyes, I have the same dream each night, it is very short but effective. I am walking towards my tree stand, followed by me sitting in my tree stand looking around the forest, and then I wake up.
I can only blame myself for my pain, I do this to myself year after year, and one would think that I would learn from previous years fever. I search the internet for countless hours watching my favorite hunting videos, reading articles, looking at tradbow.com in hopes of a new article that I have not read. I am look at my map of the land I hunt and wonder if the areas I have marked will be the key to success this year. I am making bi-weekly trips down there to scout the area and to get prep my tree. I count 2 bucks, no 3…4 BUCKS in a field and already have the bulls eye on the one that I would like to have walk past me. Yes, the fever has got to me and I know that it is contagious…
Since I am a giver, and some may call me rude, but I hope YOU the person that is reading this will to get the fever. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but when you see those leaves starting to turn colors and float to the ground…when the crisp breeze blows…when you can smell fall in the air…you too will also catch the fever that I have….and when it does you can thank me.
